I worked at Amaris full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Benefits and Pay are decent if you negotiate well upfront.
    - Pretty much work independently with your client with little oversight.
    - If you have a chance to work with a great customer, you can get some great exposure.
    - Lots of travel opportunity if you're young and not tied down.

    Cons

    - Management very inconsistent (3 managers in 6 months - first one easy going and approachable, good reviews, stayed in contact. Last one never responded about offers they initiated and much stingier on raises.)
    - Lots of talk; little action from management
    - No investment in employees technical growth
    - Business development let to ride on the back of employee contacts instead of having a sales manager drum up business
    - Constant push to sell more services outside current projects when over 100% committed to a customer and didn't offer to propose ideas to alleviate workload to permit the actions.
    - Refused to invest or support existing business until technical staff generated more business.
    - If they aren't able to generate business, you're out of a job when your contract runs out.

    Advice to Management

Follow through with what you're promising.

Take a more holistic look at your markets and invest appropriately. For example, if you have a concentration of a specific type of talent, use that talent to sell more services and hire additional consultants to support current projects. In new markets, where you have no reputation you need to focus on a smaller set of services to market yourselves and support your existing consultants.

If your constantly sales pitching your own consultants, it seems like you're trying to convince them of something they should already know. If they need convincing of how "great" the company is, you're doing something wrong.

    I worked at Amaris full-time

    Pros

Young and multicultural environment. Ability to quickly grow skills and knowledge, as a lot of work and responsibility, alongside autonomy, is given to everyone from the beginning. Start-up culture.

    Cons

Main focus is revenue and money. Because of that, consultants have better perks than support employees. Huge growth over the past years, with a big increase in employee numbers, but still with a start up attitude. Work life balance is inexistant and the worload is usually very high. Communication is also an organisational issue.

    Advice to Management

Prioritise people and respect their lifes and workload. Provide better work life balance and develop strategies to retain talent.

    Pros

    - Good learning platform if you get a good client.
    - Independent learning, good networking within the interested industry
    - Good for juniors/ startup career
    - Great work life balance for consultants only

    Cons

    - Managers have very little technical knowledge
    - Upon confirming the project/ contract/ agreement with client managers tend to disappear.
    - Very poor management of HR related matters
    - Not a good platform for executive or professional
    - No career progression as the organization mostly only does recruitment
    - Very low and non competitive pay & extremely calculative

    Advice to Management

Be versed with the client's expectation and also try to know some technical knowledge.
