I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Being able to work with high level management is great. you get to learn a lot of new skills that will help support your team. If your Gm trusts you can work take on big projects that will get you recognition from regional and Directors.

    Cons

The GMA roll is misleading in some aspects. Tho you get to do what the position calls for some of the time. Depending on how the GM see's your role it could be running reports, walking the floor and looking for safety issues, working on one off projects even working on network wide things which might get you some recognition from the higher ups. However you will do a lot of unrelated things that do not relate to your role. Some of these things are buying food for every department, you an your buyer are the only ones who have a company card it's either you or him which makes sense. However you will have to do all the foot work which includes finding out how many people needfood, what type of food and enter a REQ to order this food. Don't expect people to do that for you, sometimes you get lucky tho and the person requesting has done the foot work. HR will be in your life for every thing, which after a while the "General Manager Assistant" will turn in to HR Assistant. You are also considered a event planner make sure you know how to order pretty balloons, cake, cupcakes and shinny things. and god forbid you leave HR out of any food meals they will come after you. And lastly you start feeling useless and some managers will think that you know nothing else accept how to order food and cupcakes, then look at you when you put something together and say "You did this??" in awe... over all if your not in operation your opinion is not valid unless you are someone that was trusted and you got to take on more and that went network wide.

    Advice to Management

I think it is time to have a RE-ORG for the GMA role and start looking at this position as a serious role. with the possible consideration of also promoting from 4s to 5s

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with higher management. Working on or developing tools that could be noticed by higher ups.

    Cons

The GMA role is very misleading. When applying you read provide support to GM, support other leaders etc. However you will come to notice quickly that it's almost the last thing you do is support the GM with anything, sure you do, do that but the other half you will be HR's puppet. I Cant begin how much things are passed on to you from HR, to the point where your title might as well be HR assistant. You will be given things that are clearly HR things they should take care of. Also you will be considered an event planner what I mean by that is you better know how to pick out cake/cupcakes,balloons and shinny things. You will start to feel useless after a while. Managers will only know that you order cake and candy. Then are in awe after you put something together in excel and stare at you like "you did this"as far as FCs go you will be the one doing the most pointless things with little to no recognition, again unless you are trusted to do something important. At Amazon you are respected by what lvl you are. You start as a lvl4 and will never move to 5 or anything else Amazon does not have a promo for GMAs you will be forever a 4 as you watch your peers pass you buy. There's plenty more but in short you will just be feeding people with the occasional do this one important thing.

    Advice to Management

Time for a GMA RE-ORG ASAP

    Pros

Pay is okay. Could be better for job duties where you are required to act about your role without compensation. It’s more for experience.

    Cons

Communication could be better across management team. More training should be provided to employees so everyone is on the same page. Also associate feedback should be taken more seriously by management
