I have been working at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very smart and highly skilled people on the team. A lot to learn from them especially if you're a graduate new hire.
Not a conventional support role where you send pre-framed responses. Every case poses unique challenges and one will learn something new every day.

    Cons

A major contribution to performance evaluation is customer ratings which hurts the employees since most of the low ratings are baseless and due to the client's frustration with their inability to read the terribly written documentation.

And, the funny thing is, the management thinks a customer gave 2 stars due to the engineer not greeting the client, or some other silly reason.

    Advice to Management

Try to judge whether to remove a low star rating from an engineer, on the basis of the response's technical accuracy. A client in production pain cares if their problem is solved and not if he/she was greeted or not.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    *Shares.
    *Good learning,
*Coding and more in to AWS cloud.
*A lot of opportunities for self staters.
*Python is recently everywhere evolved, at Amazon too. So a lot of code base to refer and learn.

    Cons

*Less package comparing to the market standard.
*Everything is automated and portal based, if you are from system admin background, there is nothing much to implement here. All is to automate and more into coding.
*Amazon is a data driven company and more focused to customer satisfaction and have many leadership principles to follow. Few people likes and most of them not.
*HR is clubbing shares and joining bonus to salary [L4 and above], after two years it actually fall back to offered package if yearly hike is 10 or less percentage. Expectation is on the share value and would only allow to vest after two years.
*No external training provided, all is Amazon internal training. Amazon does not believe in certifications or third party trainings.

    Advice to Management

*Please match up the salary to current market standard for all existing employees.
*Allow employees to raise their bar rather just working on tickets and take values from their resolved count.
*HR team should be more in sync with the employee and with the team.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

We live, breathe, walk, talk and swear by the leadership principles. The best leadership principle and my personal favorite is "Have Backbone, Disagree and Commit." I have worked with Amazon for 3 years, 7 months, 13 days (as of today) and I have never been afraid or hesitant about it!

    Cons

On the contrary, the same leadership principle "Have Backbone, Disagree and Commit" is written well on paper and when practiced, often gets misinterpreted as "Lack of Earn Trust" "Closed to Feedback" and "Emotionally driven." As much as I swear by it, I followed it religiously every day of my life with Amazon, however, at the cost of my job, it was misinterpreted and I have been dealing with perception since day 1.

    Advice to Management

Humbly request you to look into issues by working backwards, just as much as we do it with our customers. From where I stand "Have Backbone, Disagree and Commit" is a Taboo. Amazon will be a safe and customer-centric company when an employee is not afraid to execute this Leadership Principle in particular and that is clearly not the case in BLR India.

I love this place and will be my favorite any day!!
