I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Exciting to work in an innovative company. Co-workers are all hard workers and easy to get along with

    Cons

Amazon will have a single person working, what typically multiple people or a whole team are doing in other companies. You have to accept the fact that you will never 'get ahead'.

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Ability to work independently on a day to day basis. Ability to work from home when necessary. Most co-workers were amazing. Ability to work on international projects. Salary was reasonable.

    Cons

I worked in the legal department and they were still using Word to create contracts (and for contracts totaling sometimes less than $1,000). The busy work was overwhelming with no change in site (after two years). Very political with promotions going to people not based on merit. They had a bell curve that they would force a certain amount of employees to be rated poorly. Most people were working 60 hours due to inefficiencies....

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk instead of just talking the talk. Amazon preaches that it wants you to be an owner but doesn't give you the authority to act.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Tons of Opportunity for advancement; on-going educational opportunities; ability to work in almost an unlimited number of areas; great compensation package; work with incredibly bright people in an international environment; the company truly lives and stand behind the leadership principles; Day 1 culture means everyone's opinion is respected and everyone is expected to participate in meetings, even if its your first...

    Cons

Health benefits are okay, but not great; Very little downtime - this is not necessarily a draw-back, but if you are used to having lots of free time during the working hours, you are going to get a rude-awakening at Amazon. If you (really) like being busy and thrive under pressure, this is the place for you!

    Advice to Management

More females in senior leadership roles!

    Pros

Ever challenging environment and expanding business to learn from. Have to stay on your toes and ensure you understand a subject holistically.

    Cons

See NYTs article. Honestly this place is a nest for wasps and sharks acting out of their own interests. The article is a bit sensationalized but the cultural description is accurate.

    Advice to Management

Learn what middle managers are doing (or not doing) and quickly before you continue to lose talent.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Work on exciting projects. Never bored; always growing and learning new skills with support from your team and mentor. Get to work with the smartest people you'll ever meet. Your feedback matters, even if it isn't specific to your role on a given project.

    Cons

Rarely do you get a "pat on the back" for a job well done. Depending on the team your on, work/life balance can be challenging sometimes.
