I worked at Amazon full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

I often felt like the work I was doing directly contributed to the success of my team. I know this wasn't the experience for everyone working around me, but it was for me. The level of professionalism I experienced was high: people take initiative, follow-through on what they say they are going to do, and expect to be held to a high standard. On my team, work-life balance was actually pretty good! Salary good;...

    Cons

Long-ish hours (8.5-9.5 hour days the norm). Salary was good, health insurance okay, but vacation time is low. No free snacks or anything, which if you come from the startup world is like "WHAT?!" but I was alright with it. After-work events vary wildly by team: some groups go out a lot, others not at all. There may or may not be beer on Friday nights at your team. Ya takes your chances.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Amazon for more than a year

    Pros

I had excellent, communicative managers, productive teams, and plenty of perks around the office. Amazon is a good company to work for as a contractor.

    Cons

Contractors are usually limited to 40 hours per week, which can make for hectic days when there is a lot to do. There are few opportunities for advancement for contractors, so be keenly on the lookout.

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Salary was satisfactory, but not worth the headache.

    Cons

After returning from maternity leave, I was laid off. This company functions without a heart and treats employees like factory workers.

    Advice to Management

It functions with childlike management that don't appear to understand process. This company needs to get a few adults in the mix.
