I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazon has always been a busy and fulfilling place to work, the technical innovation provides employees to a platform to be involved in shaping the future of cloud services. This allows employees insight into the company's core and provides opportunities to continually grow and move roles in sync with their interests.

    Cons

Things move fast and teams grow, it can be difficult to keep up with the pace of change especially when that dictates that teams have to reshape to better serve the customer.

    I worked at Amazon full-time

    Pros

They pay well and their brand name is solid. If you manage to get a desk job you will manage to have a somewhat acceptable work-life balance

    Cons

    - Immense focus on numbers, very little regarding quality of work
    - Employees tend to form certain cliques with their specific nationality, pretentious teamwork that does not help and it's only for the show
    - Very long hours, work-life balance is non-existant, on top of that they are understaffed (and they're always going to be ) and there are frequent requests for overtime
    - Their ticketing system is a mess and counter-intuitive
    - DCO tech is really the closest thing to the blue collar working at their warehouses; Nobody cares about you.
    - Training is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Chill of a little with the numbers, and focus on proper training and employee needs

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've worked with some of the smartest people I've ever meet and from them I learnt a lot of new stuff.

    Cons

Information Security is experiencing a severe morale issue due to their Senior Leadership being totally absent (or caring of their own affairs) and when present continuously changing direction just to satisfy their boss in order to get promoted. Business travel and trainings at employee expense due to the same Sr. Leadership running out of money with their own spending. This resulted in projects delayed and put on hold. There is no budget for remote offices to visit the HQ but they want to hire in new locations.

    Advice to Management

Talents need to be motivated to stay otherwise they will continue to leave.
InfoSec already lost a number of talented engineers and all agreed that the main reason was the inability of Sr. Leadership to recover the morale problem.
Unicorns are for kids, not for professionals!

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some managers I had were great, very focused and willing to help you growth.

    Cons

InfoSec managers and Sr Leadership do not have any backbone. As soon as a VP changes direction they all change direction for the sole purpose of accomplishing the VP so they can get promoted.
Engineers are continuously randomized and not allowed to focus on their projects and deliver on the same. Engineers are then marked as underperforming because they did not deliver.
InfoSec employees are asked to pay for international business travel, training courses and even national business travel out of pocket because Sr. Leadership run out of money with their own spending.
The overall org morale is terrible and there is no real plan to address this problem.
The only thing Sr. leader offered as solution is to call engineers Cloud Unicorns which is clearly the most stupid thing ever done.

    Advice to Management

When I joined InfoSec the situation was way better as the moral was. We lost a huge number of great engineers due to poor InfoSec Sr. leadership never present and/or continuously changing goals. They still do not see the problem nor they are planning to remediate. I am myself planning to move away from InfoSec to be able love my job again.
