I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Keep in mind that I don't work at HQ in Seattle. I work in the fulfillment network and that seems to be a very different environment from HQ. -Smart People: I work with genuinely intelligent people daily. They bring new perspectives and information. I can honestly say that I've grown professionally. -Never a Dull Moment: The work is always changing. I've struggled with monotony in past jobs, but not at Amazon....

    Cons

-Workload/Long Hours: The work is always changing and never ending. There is no Work/Life balance. This is especially true during the peak season (late Oct through Christmas). Amazon has frugality as a leadership principal and it takes it to the extreme. They always try to do more with less (i.e., less people) and that means they expect you to make up the difference. -"Ambiguity" used as an Excuse: Management...

    Advice to Management

Salaried employees in the fulfillment centers are stretched too thin. Invest in your people more (genuinely, not with lip service) and work to make them value teamwork. Competition is good, but not when it is at the expense of your workplace culture. Creating a culture that values team building and all that it can accomplish (and I mean viewing the entire company as a team) would yield enormous benefits that would...

    Pros

They provide so many rotational opportunities. They focus on development and always willing to help. Everyone is so smart around you, it's motivating.

    Cons

You will work long hours but it's worth it.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great work environment in my team. However, work environment can be very different depending on your team and manager. We have regular opportunities to make concerns heard by upper management in either one-on-ones, town-hall style meetings (all-hands) and via informal pizza lunches with the division CFO. Seattle SLU campus is great and continues to get better every year! Lots of opportunities to make meaningful contributions.

    Cons

Being part of a company that has ambitious plans means a lot of time is spent catching up. Things change very fast and there is a need to adapt quickly. This can be exciting or frustrating or tiring depending on your attitude towards it. If you're comfortable with the idea of working for a start-up, you will fit right in! While medical/ dental/ 401k is decent, other perks are lacking (tuition reimbursement for one). The...

    Advice to Management

Continue the good work on listening to the team and following through on promises. Jeff Bezos & Andy Jassy have the vision to take Amazon and AWS forward. Need to invest more in campus shuttles to/ from all major suburbs to make it easier for Amazonians new to Seattle to become home owners.

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some groups are great others are a mess. Hope for the best, if not wait a year and change teams. The software developers seem to love the place because they are the ones actually working/building the innovative projects. The finance people are simply creating the reports. Good pay and benefits. Smart employees. Serious review process.

    Cons

Lean headcount leaves teams overly stretched. As a result the promise of project work turns into working fire drills and random tasks 80% of the time. High turnover leaves projects partially done with no explanation of why it was being done and how to finish it as planned creating complete chaos. Poor team dynamics.

    Advice to Management

Given the high turnover both internally and external the company needs to focus on the overall transition process to ensure the work done by past employees is well documented so tribal knowledge stays within the organization, creating a more efficient and effective work environment.

I have been working at Amazon full-time

    Pros

You definitely get to choose your career. Amazon is a culture of 'rowing your own canoe'. You can go many directions and I feel that the general consensus of managers support this ideology.

    Cons

Depending on what team, you can work longer hours than expected.

    Advice to Management

Always be open to communicate with your team. And keep things confidential if asked to.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company to work at as a young professional looking to gain experience in a demanding, high responsibility position.

    Cons

All about delivering results, even if it involves cutting corners and is not going to scale. Work/life balance is poor and the expectation is that you are always "on call" if something comes up(nights, weekends, holidays, etc).

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Being a part of a rapidly growing ecommerce giant constantly expanding into new businesses and geographies around the world. Also- they allow dogs at work! Lots of opportunities to move to different parts of the business.

    Cons

Long hours. Be prepared to come early and stay late.

    Advice to Management

Overall really solid senior leadership team.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Amazon is a great place to learn, but the company will burn you out if you let them. Most people at the company are fairly young due to the demanding schedules, but it is a challenging, fun place to work. Pay is average, but stock bonuses raise total compensation above most employers especially when the stock price goes up significantly in a year.

    Cons

Promotions and good reviews are dependent on having a good manager. A bad manager can ruin your experience. Definitely not the place to work if you are into being pampered and having your feelings catered to. People are very direct and to the point. It helps business get done quickly, but there isn't much tolerance for politics and little concern about creating a "feel-good" work environment.

    Advice to Management

Invest in employees more and keep turnover down especially among developers.
