I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

One of the most innovative companies on earth! This is an exciting place to work, always something new and challenging. The pay is highly competitive, the talent I work with on a daily basis is astounding, and the culture is outstanding. Very customer focused!

    Cons

There are not alot of "pay grades" at Amazon, so this isn't the place for people who are looking to get promoted every year. Titles here tend to be modest in comparison to the level of responsibility. But the amount of opportunity, and the pay within each pay grade, more than makes up for that gap.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people, somewhat cool product

    Cons

Experience varies (a lot) from team to team, manager to manager. Company provides some career growth coaching, but you take your own wheel completely. e.g. change team and product group that works best for you. Swim or sink culture.

I have been working at Amazon part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Solid hours for part timers, good exercise, good environment and interactions with others. You'll develop new skills while on the job and learn many new things.
Great for students and set schedules as a part time.

    Cons

Have 1 hour prepared before and after your shifts during holidays. You need to have a flexible schedule of at least 4 days in a row. You need to adapt as soon as you can. Some managers can be harsh and has lack of understanding. You need to voice out your concerns and complaints if you want anything to change. This is not a place for shy people.

    Advice to Management

The workers are also humans not slaves.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance. I recently had a baby, & my Manager & Director regularly stop by to tell me to take off any time I need for bonding, doctor's appointments, or just to help out at home.

Great compensation & benefits. I can't speak for every person in every role, but I'd be hard-pressed to find another employer with better compensation & benefits in Orange County.

Interesting projects. I truly enjoy & believe in the products I work on. I'm afforded opportunities to mold & change them in positive ways. And I can tell that my teammates feel the same way.

    Cons

Career progression. It's on you, as an employee, to progress your own career here. While I see pros & cons to this, I wasn't wholly impressed with my own process of working toward a promotion. However, I have seen positive changes made since then.

I have been working at Amazon part-time

    Pros

Fairly secure employment, solid healthcare benefits for full time workers.

    Cons

No paths to grow in the job unless you want to work in a warehouse your whole life. Even people with masters degrees wait years to be promoted even near their level of worth. Low pay compared to cost of living despite being a whole dollar-fifty above minimum. Have to choose from preselected hours generated by a computer, so all the important work related matters that impact you are decided by machines, not people.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to give decision making power to local managers so that they can help people move up into more desirable kinds of work. Pooling thousands of applications online is not people centric, and this lazy practice fails to reward qualities overlooked by opaque word search algorithms, such as tenacity, uniqueness, drive and talent. You call yourselves the most customer centric company on earth, but all your workers are your customers, and you treat them like machines by how little human interaction is involved in hiring, scheduling, promoting, and problem solving. Human empathy and subjectivity is more valuable over the long run than raw numeric data, so as long as there's so little meaning and opportunity in Amazon for workers stuck in your warehouses, all your sugar coated garbage about social justice is just virtue signaling. And get rid of the infantalizing man-child culture of superheros and emojis. We're not in kindergarten.
