I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Amazon enables you to make/execute decisions without having to vie for approvals from middle management (which itself, is mostly non-existent in the classical sense). Every job that I have worked at Amazon has been incredible challenging, which I enjoy; it is great to work for a company where I feel like I am learning something new and developing myself personally each day. It also advocates strongly for using new technologies...

    Cons

The workload expectations on employees is pretty high. If you are a person that is very good at setting your own personal limits on hours worked, scope of role, etc.. then you will probably be fine. For myself personally though, these are areas that I've struggled with, and at times have probably caused myself a lot of unneeded stress that wasn't necessary.

    Advice to Management

I have worked in 5 different roles across the company (3 in one org, and then 2 in 2 other organizations). I don't think that there is any single advice I would give that would span all of these roles. Each manager I have had has displayed their own nuances to managing; most aspects I have really enjoyed, a few I would have been happier without, but I think that this is the case with any manager at any company. I have...

I worked at Amazon for less than a year

    Pros

High compensation, good perks, prestige, reasonable accommodations, casual culture, modern office, good cafeteria, available connecting shuttles.

    Cons

Isolated, outdated technological environment, red tape, insane access security, no creative freedom, bad hardware, high capacity, dense office sitting and space, pets allowed, long lines for restrooms and elevators, lots of not so bright interns and freshmen, high turnaround and churn, clueless management, no parking, not so easy access from outside the city downtown area, high secrecy, no opportunity for growth,...

    Advice to Management

Beyond repair... Modernise IT tools and technical base--use open source, remove insane building access security rules, get more office space, have a clear career growth path... reward loyalty.

I worked at Amazon for more than 8 years

    Pros

In Amazon were very talented crew. Not all of them, but many of them! Believe it is a normal.. The best place to start career. Wide usage of technologies! Not always a newest ones but still interested. Very good opportunities for interns.

    Cons

Projects relatively short. You'll be asked to maintain few projects simultaneously. Some times this 'few' means a lot! Because of many projects you should communicate with other crews. Not always they help you with a smile. Many projects (modules or tools) has no documentary. Many project built or maintained by people from India, so you have to stay extra hours for the short conversation with India.

    Advice to Management

Open an Office in San Diego and hire me back.. )
