I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work and learn about amazon. Great culture.

    Cons

Amazon needs to focus in hiring managers with some management education. Lots of managers don't have bachelor degree. Amazon is pretty cheap in terms of hiring and giving employees compensation as opposed to their contribution

    Advice to Management

Invest in management education of supervisors and managers. Managers are focused on numbers and not on people.

Feet will hurt from standing for 10 hours

    Advice to Management

Let people know when they make mistakes so they won't be easily fired.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazon is one of the few companies which, in addition to developing effective production metrics and encouraging continuous process innovation, has created a way of quantifying associate engagement and satisfaction with their Area Manager. Amazon values the happiness of its workers and is committed to the values of servant leadership.

    Cons

Depending on how well an associate's physical and intellectual abilities match with their job placement upon hiring, their daily experience of working at Amazon can be wildly disparate with other entry-level associates. It can be difficult to cultivate the best performance from associates who may be stagnant in or ill-equipped to perform their given function when cross-training is what they want and need but is not available at the time.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your associates and their concerns. Take an active interest in their lives. Give sincere and frequent praise. Let them keep their dignity when they are wrong. Explain the why of things, let them know where they fit into the bigger picture, make them feel that their work makes a difference. Happy workers are harder workers.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, stocks, tuition assistance, available OT.
Online employee portal (desktop and mobile) is highly convenient.
Need a job fast while you look of your career, this is a great opportunity.
Plenty of time to think as you become highly efficient in performing menial tasks.

    Cons

    Employee discount needs some work.
Not training employees completely before allowing them to work alone.
EXTREMELY difficult for internal advancement into management; takes an act of many levels of management to do so: if you want a management position, you pretty much have to quit, and get hired in as an external applicant.
Not a promote from within organization.
Employee development is almost nonexistent, even though there are an incredible amount of trainers in the facility.
Safety program is a joke at best, no one takes seriously; management talks about what needs to happen, but does not follow own directives.
Lack of followthrough when concerns are addressed.
Lack of communication down to the employees.

    Advice to Management

Make exempt positions available as easily for internal applicants as they are for external applicants. Requiring an employee to get approval from a level 5 through a level 8 manager just to interview is absurd, esp. when the employee is more than qualified for the level 5 & 6 positions.
Get off the computers, and break away from the heard. Spending up to 98% of your shift behind the computer, or socializing with your fellow "leaders" is noticed by everyone on the floor. Leaders lead, managers manage, so please start leading, or change what is on the back of your vests.
Make the safety program more active, and less passive. Ownership and Bias for Action are the 2 big principles here, and both are thwarted by the current program of identifying, and reporting safety issues.
Training and employee development will help you reduce turnover, and keep your employees feeling fresh, appreciated, and motivated. Nothing kills moral like doing the same mundane task, every day, of every week, of every month, without end.

    Pros

Benefits and pay. Bonuses were ok as well. Good mix of people from all types of backgrounds. Plenty of overtime available especially during the holidays.

    Cons

Long hours during peak season. No cafeteria or good discount for Amazon.com Sometimes coworkers could be rude since they hire pretty much anybody.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the workers. Answer questions that are posted on the white board. Recognize when our rate is out of our control when it depends on someone else as well.

    Pros

Pay is decent from about 11 to 12 an hour depending on shift.

    Cons

You over worked, your back will give out, even with proper lifting you'll still ruin your back. They don't care about your health, you have to take care of your own body. They also fire people for illegitimate reasons.

    Advice to Management

Take a better look at your system.. a stower should not always be the one at fault when an item is missing when your pickers or other Stowers end up misplacing it or picking it with their item, even checking the amnesty report doesn't keep the stower from being punished. That is not a fair work environment nor is it any longer equal opportunity.

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work on the outgoing side was interesting. Switched up what you were doing every 1/4 of tbe day so it didn't get too boring.

    Cons

The heat inside the warebouse fullfillment center during the summer is insanely brutal. You're gonna want to bring a ton of cold water.

    Advice to Management

Treat your worker bees good and they'll make you lots of honey.
