I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome co-workers, very talent and helpful. Compensation is above market average. The variety of opportunities to pick interesting projects is amazing.

    Cons

Poor work-life balance in the majority of the teams. Software developers workload involves significant portions of Operations in addition to Development, which is a great experience, however the Development portion is plagued by too much internal friction across teams.

    Advice to Management

The recent growth has put too much project rotation across software development teams. Reaching cruise speed for a two-pizza team can take 2 or 3 projects (ex: 3 months projects), re-shuffling teams & projects more frequently than that can disrupt from reaching optimum productivity. Although business priorities or Organization changes are perceived as legitimate reasons for these changes by leadership, they can jeopardize developers careers.
