I worked at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Huge Responsibility very early. Great colleagues. Constant opportunities to learn. Financially rewarding. Great attitude to educating their employees.

    Cons

Very high workload. Occasionally feel under supported. No real HR support.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more highly. Outsourcing HR to Romania and India and being forced to enter complaints in a ticketing system meant I had no where to turn when I was having issues.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Competitive salary - If you are incredibly driven you can force exposure to very senior leadership - Great potential role for people that enjoy sales - Opportunity to be exposed to some extremely talented people

    Cons

    - To get to the stage of having an intellectually challenging role, you will need to take on extra projects which amount to volunteering to do significantly more work outside of core role, which means a lot of late nights. This is also the only way to secure promotion - Arbitrary and extremely stretching targets - You will be driving growth on a very granular level - 'Beta male' dominated atmosphere - The competitive...

    Advice to Management

Take the time to understand the priorities of your direct reports, and the fact that you are managing very intellectual and driven individuals, whose scope of work ought to reflect their intelligence and motivations

I have been working at Amazon full-time

    Pros

Work with an absolutely fantastic team of talented hard working people. Genuinely fun place to work.

    Cons

Individual performance is not measured correctly. Progression is a slow and bureaucratic process.

    Advice to Management

Some could really need it with some formal management training. Training has got better but still poor overall.

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fun and friendly atmosphere, nice offices (London Holborn) and a relaxed manager if you meet your targets Finally a budget introduced for more social activities and lunches, before Amazon were very stingy and frugal Your working within one of the fastest growing companies in Retail - great to see your accounts rapidly improving and analysing their successes

    Cons

Poor retention, so many people left during my 19months at the company from all levels, it meant a poor atmosphere of unhappiness Nothing is done to retain talent, continuously recruiting from outside instead of internal progression

    Advice to Management

Concentrate not only on your own career but helping those on your team to progress in their role or outside in a new department, otherwise people become unchallenged

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Ok pay, 28k for a first job. Very fun and intelligent colleagues. Opportunity to create meaningful projects.

    Cons

Management is poor. They seem disinterested in people management and would rather do their analysis work. This leads to poor team morale. The general feeling is that we have been mis sold the job. It was pitched as a broad reaching role, with elements of consulting and analysis. The reality is that it is telephone sales and there are stringent targets that leave little time to do anything else. The attrition is appalling....

    Advice to Management

Give opportunity for promotions and hire actual managers, not just analysts with no people skills.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Expanding company, opportunities to see many sides of the business - There is a focus on ownership and bias for action, meaning you have the freedom to come up with an idea, build a business case and drive that idea to success - Great range of very smart people, great opportunity to learn and develop through them

    Cons

    - Not much formal training/ development offered - Slow promotion process. Have to be in the company for at least 18 months.
