I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - solid salary, benefits, WFH Summer Fridays
    - self-starter culture
    - great managers who will help you get promoted, especially early in your career

    Cons

    - workloads can ebb and flow significantly
    - strict no vacation policy in Q4
    - tools and processes constantly changing

    Advice to Management

Frugality is often cited as the reason why Amazon isn't as "fun" as other tech companies. Taking your teams on a true offsite (mandatory, out of the office, and during the workday) will go a long way.

I worked at Amazon part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazon the brand name and maybe benefits

    Cons

The salary horrible and you would expect more from a billionaire company. They only care about getting rates in and not employees. There seems to be either racism or favoritism when it comes to promoting. You ask to go higher but they ignore you unless you fit their click. They most have managers doing nothing but watching their employees (who are mostly black) do all the work, and these white higher ups get promoted for doing nothing really except monitor rate on a computer of other employees diligent work. They are racist management in opinion. When your a black person asking to go higher in responsibility they look at you weird as if too you deserve to be at the bottom cause your black. They don't believe in helping others grow rather it's the companies using poor educated black people like slaves to make them most of their rate because black people at times are desperate enough to do the job for money and it's hard for them elsewhere at times. Amazon knows this and they take advantage.

    Advice to Management

Give people of Color black and Hispanic more growth in Manhattan and all your other locations.

    Pros

It's Amazon and that's about it.

    Cons

Very hard to get promoted. The pay scale is ridiculous, meaning do not expect your second or third year to receive a big boost in your salary. You'll be lucky if you get 2 more RSUs!

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I often felt like the work I was doing directly contributed to the success of my team. I know this wasn't the experience for everyone working around me, but it was for me.

The level of professionalism I experienced was high: people take initiative, follow-through on what they say they are going to do, and expect to be held to a high standard.

On my team, work-life balance was actually pretty good!

Salary good; stock GREAT. Health insurance okay. They give you a free Metrocard and other commuter benefits, so that's good too.

    Cons

Long-ish hours (8.5-9.5 hour days the norm).

Salary was good, health insurance okay, but vacation time is low.

No free snacks or anything, which if you come from the startup world is like "WHAT?!" but I was alright with it.

After-work events vary wildly by team: some groups go out a lot, others not at all. There may or may not be beer on Friday nights at your team. Ya takes your chances.
