I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Amazon is doing amazing things in so many areas: media, cloud, fulfillment, hardware, grocery, Fire/Kindle. The stock growth over time is great bonus too.

    Cons

Having multiple managers in a short period of time combined with moving between teams, resets the upward mobility opportunities. From 3 counts of personal experience (plus colleagues), management failed to take major life changing moments (i.e., birth or a death in the family) into account when allowing for time to celebrate or grieve. Meaning they didn't have a backup plan to cover for employee that was on a leave...

    Advice to Management

Update Jeff's quote "Work Hard. Have Fun. Make History" to be: "Work like you job depends on it, because if you don't you'll be history".

    I worked at Amazon

    Pros

Definitely one of the most data-driven companies in the world and decisions are all made based on solid data support. Generally it supports new ideas though it requires a lot lot lot of data to support. And you can learn a lot about the every aspects of the business - supply chain, service provider, A/B test, payment process etc. You name it. It's an environment that you can learn a lot. Tons of internal transfer opportunities...

    Cons

For new employees, it basically has no systematic training arranged. You will be thrown into the field since day one. Everything is self-serviced so count on yourself now. It's common that after 3 months, you are still dizzy about a lot of stuff here. Its culture encourages team members to challenge each other otherwise you will be considered as "the one with no insight". With it being said, people are not supportive...

    Advice to Management

According to Bezos, they won't claim their culture is the best on but the people who stay in the company fits the culture for sure. And I chose to leave.

I worked at Amazon for less than a year

    Pros

    - Has some of the best perks and benefits in any company, the salary is really up there - People are nice and helpful, as long as you don't waste their time - The whole company revolves around facts and stats!

    Cons

    - The culture is absolutely uninspiring, being simply played back at you at every step of the way - Slough and the whole Slough office is in terrible shape and is a poor location for entertainment - Is extremely bureaucratic sometimes

    Advice to Management

    - Split the company between Retail and Tech/Media, change the culture of the Tech/Media side of things

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone who works here is very bright and driven so you never need to carry anyone - they'd get fired long before that Career progression - you can move around easily and change job functions which offers a lot of opportunity Customer focus - they genuinely put the customer first which is rare for a company this size

    Cons

Culture is very stressful - most people work evenings and weekend. There's no work-life balance, even at the more junior levels. Management are poorly trained and over-stretched. Tools are clunky and frustrating - they don't have dedicated analysts so you have to pull your own data from multiple sources. Too much admin at all levels - even MBAs and past consultants are given crap tasks to do.

    Advice to Management

Spend some time reshaping the company into what it should be 15 years down the line. Currently it's still working as a start up with dodgy hacks and patches, no policy and little structure. This can't be sustained.

I have been working at Amazon part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Advice to Management

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Gutes Gehalt, gute Sozialleistungen, flache Hierarchien, nette Mitarbeiter, junge Teams

    Cons

Zu sehr Manager-gesteuert, wenn dein manager dich nicht pusht hast du verloren

    Advice to Management

Mehr auf die Mitarbeiter achten, die einem unterstellt sind - auf ALLE
