I worked at Amazon for more than a year

      Pros

      - Getting Amazon on your resume - Meeting and working with some very intelligent people, lot's of talented high IQ candidates. - Good pay for amount and level of work expected.

      Cons

      - All the rumors about Amazon company culture being horrible are all true. - A cut throat, backstabbing environment that is promoted by management and their ridiculously hypocritical "14 point principles." - The job is an illusion. The stock offered matures after 4 years. The average employee lasts less that 2 years, and if you're there longer than a year, that's longer than 75% of the people. - Rest assured, the...

I worked at Amazon for more than a year

      Pros

Great pay, great benefits. Great experience for resume.

      Cons

Working 200-300 hours per month Completely unprofessional work environment No training program Horribly understaffed Extremely stressful No working technical diagrams or study material Dirty job, server rooms smell like the inside of a vacuum cleaner, cleanliness is a disaster Nonstop discussion of politics in an especially politically charged time Horrible work culture

      Advice to Management

Foster a respectful work culture, where helping each other is encouraged instead of discouraged. Stop talking about politics, it's offensive. There is a difference between having a relaxed work setting where profanity and normal conversation are accepted, and having a cliquey, hostile, politically charged and intolerant workplace. Getting fired was the best thing that could have happened to me, you have employees in DCEO...

I worked at Amazon for more than a year

      Pros

-Somewhat relaxing environment where one can work at their own pace -Great place to learn about data center culture and learn about data center operations -Friendly company at first glance -Benefits and salary are worth the effort

      Cons

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Never the same "grind", every day brings new challenges and opportunities to provide solutions. The work itself is incredibly enjoyable if you are into operations and problem solving. The pay is good especially for the work required. The schedule is unbeatable, half the year off if you don't want to work overtime.

      Cons

Senior management is detached from conditions on the ground. Most managers have little to no experience in operations and therefore don't know what is required day to day for the worker actually doing the things necessary to keep the business going. No operations experience also means decisions made for policies, new builds, new work or anything related to the actual job are not always good decisions.

      Advice to Management

Promote current building operations managers and seasoned operators rather than hiring outside "talent" for high level decision makers affecting day to day operations and ultimately the future of this company.
