I worked at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

great place to work while having fun and working out all in one place. benefits are great if you take the time to invest

    Cons

Treat everyone equally. Amazon tends to hire only military veterans or spouses of veterans in management. Civilians are just that when it comes down to the rest of the employees regardless to experience or degree

    Pros

Great pay, great environment to work in, basically unlimited upward movement and the ability to make your career what you want.

    Cons

Peak can get busy depending on your field - restricted vacation days, etc.. The hiring process is pretty terrible, and HR always seems to be overwhelmed.

    Advice to Management

Continue to develop current Amazonians and reward those who take calculated risks and have good ideas. Don't let the older generations take over and make Amazon bland like other companies, we need more innovators, not just people with impressive resumes that are just looking for a good place to hang out until retirement.

I worked at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits -- as long as you are hired directly by Amazon, not a temp agency.
Four 10-hour days, which means three days off every week.
Great exercise as a picker -- walking 10-15 miles per shift. Everyone hired at the same time as me went down several sizes in the three months.
Pay is above minimum wage, which is good for a person of no previous experience.

    Cons

Workers are treated somewhat like robots, in that their value is directly related to their ability to "pick," "pack," or "stow" according to the rate established by mgmt.
If you don't "make rate" you get a write-up. I saw many, many workers reduced to tears over write-up and feeling like they were about to be fired. High turnover and low morale seemed prevalent.
"Peak" season (Nov/Dec) means working 60 hours per week. I didn't mind this because it meant more pay, but a lot of people complained about the mandatory overtime. Just know, going in, that this will be expected.

    Advice to Management

Working at Amazon can be grueling and demoralizing, but I don't know how it could be changed and still provide customers with the fast service we have all come to expect when ordering online.

    I worked at Amazon full-time

    Pros

    Great salary, great benefits, stocks!!

    Cons

I work 2 years for the company. If you are a college grad with an offer, make yourself this question- Are you willing to sacrifice your life balance for money? If your answer is yes, be prepared to be mentally and physically exhausted for ever. If you have a significant other, pet or a hobbie you can forget about it. I lost 20 lbs working here; you get a 20 min lunch but you still need to be on your computer/radio jic they need(they always need you). Being an area manager is being a mini entrepreneur; you have to develop ideas, projects, create processes. If you cannot innovate you will fail. Lastly, you get a grade! CONNECTIONS! Your associates will rate you 1-5 and your performance will be based on that; no matter what you think, if youre the best completed projects and improved processes if your connections are low expect to be call to HR constantly. Expect a lot of OT; I was working 55-65 hrs a week. If you don't have experience in the field and need a company for your resume I'll recommend a this job.

    Advice to Management

Management per site it's different. Better recognition to area managers. You will be the soldiers in the front line.
