I have been working at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been at Amazon for a month now, and I've seen none of the horror stories being communicated to the public, although Amazon is a large enough company that I'm sure there are good pockets and bad pockets. Everyone here is really smart, and wants to succeed both personally, and as a company. People collaborate and help each other, focus on data, and truly focus on the customer. Every company I've ever worked for talks about how important the customer is, but on day 2, they're forgotten. Amazon seems to genuinely focus on what's best for the customer, and it's awesome to be in meetings where people actually bring that up, and make decisions focused on long-term customer satisfaction.

The opportunities to learn here are literally unlimited, and the opportunity to take on new responsibility is as well. I honestly believe you can be as awesome as you want here.

    Cons

No cons, so far - seriously. Like I said, I'm sure Amazon has some bad pockets in it here and there, but this is an amazing job, an amazing opportunity, and the biggest thing I have to complain about is that it's a little chilly in our building. I can live with that.

Does Amazon demand high quality, measurable results? Yes! Is it hard work? Yes! Is it rewarding? Yes! So I'm not calling that a 'con'. Work/life balance seems comparable to other places I've worked - not worse.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Literally the best decision I ever made was accepting my job at Amazon. If you work hard, you will truly see the fruits.

    Cons

Only negatives I can think of is the working hours. Obviously working in a warehouse that is open 24/7 you can’t be M-F. But I knew that when accepting the job. Only con.

    Advice to Management

Managers are amazing. Always encouraging growth and development. They consistently seek out feedback and ask how they can make improvements.

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Fast paced environment - minimal down time. It is "go, go, go!" in an extremely upbeat and team focused environment
    - Site, project, team, and personal goals and metrics are clearly explained what they are, how to achieve them, and how what areas we can work on to reach (and more often than not over achieve) those goals.
    - Performance reviews are on a weekly to bi-weekly bases to ensure all employees are achieving their personal goals as well as project, site and company goals
    - Management backs employee decisions. I really appreciated the ability to make more than snap decisions and really be able to dig into issues to resolve them without needing management approval. 100% of the time, as long as it wasn't infringing on my ability to do my primary job, management appreciated their employees working with other teams to help improve internal processes.
    - Communication between management, coworkers and other internal teams was some of the best I have personally ever encountered
    - Pay, benefits and schedules are second to none

    Cons

    - Metrics are focused a bit too much for my taste on the least controllable aspect of employee performance.

    Advice to Management

I would only recommend a shift in focus of quality and performance reviews to areas that employees can actually control. Placing such an extreme focus on customer satisfaction surveys is dangerous in my opinion - employees stop following company policies simply to get a positive review as opposed to educating our customers why the policy is in place, how it helps them in the long run

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Incredible benefits and schedule accommodation. Break is provided each 2 and 1/2 hours. Friendly staff. Pay day is each 2 weeks, which it makes it easy to save money.

    Cons

Night shifts are really hard for us students. You are mainly walking and standing all night. When you first land in Amazon it’s hard to change your schedule, but to get into Amazon you have to accept any shift available.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to everyone.

I worked at Amazon as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay because this is an independent contract position. Very easy job.

    Cons

Terrible work environment within the loud and dirty fulfillment center. Inconsistent information and work availability. Questionable if this should actually be a contract position. Your title might be Photographer, but you are actually a warehouse worker. Management refuses to let you sit down during a 10 hour shift (constant standing not vital to the success of the job).

    Advice to Management

There’s no point in offering advice because they won’t listen.
