I worked at Amazon part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company gives you some kind of flexibility in your time management. It gives you an acceptable starting pay. It respect s the employees by creating a well acceptable environment, clean, safe and well organized.

    Cons

Weak point in the lower hierarchical structure.

    Advice to Management

Redesign now and then the hierarchical structure particularly in the lower level of responsibilities. The lower level is usually the weak level. That level is like an entry level. This is a level where leaders most of the time are driven by their feelings, sensations. Rene Descartes was saying: " do not let your feelings prevailed in your judgments because feelings are dark sensation that can lead into errors. " One example: " It is not because you look ignorant that you are really ignorant" .

I have been working at Amazon part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible for hours, couple of weeks paid training to start off, raises around every 4-6 months.

    Cons

Zero benefits for part time employees, not much communication with any higher ups, even employee-level management. Pretty low pay as far as per hour goes.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Surrounded by smart, driven coworkers, who are motivated by the large scale/scope work of improving Amazon customer experiences. You'll learn from everyone around you.
Analytical skills and writing skills are valued.
You're empowered to experiment, take risks.

    Cons

Amazon is messy, a start up that grew very quickly (too quickly?). Some internal systems were not designed for the scale of that they are now used for, so seemingly simple tasks can be time consuming. I expected the fundamental internal processes/systems to be well oiled machines before I started working here. They are not. That can be frustrating for some but also an opportunity to innovate. You must be comfortable working in ambiguity to be happy here.

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I often felt like the work I was doing directly contributed to the success of my team. I know this wasn't the experience for everyone working around me, but it was for me.

The level of professionalism I experienced was high: people take initiative, follow-through on what they say they are going to do, and expect to be held to a high standard.

On my team, work-life balance was actually pretty good!

Salary good; stock GREAT. Health insurance okay. They give you a free Metrocard and other commuter benefits, so that's good too.

    Cons

Long-ish hours (8.5-9.5 hour days the norm).

Salary was good, health insurance okay, but vacation time is low.

No free snacks or anything, which if you come from the startup world is like "WHAT?!" but I was alright with it.

After-work events vary wildly by team: some groups go out a lot, others not at all. There may or may not be beer on Friday nights at your team. Ya takes your chances.

I worked at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours and pay is plentiful during peak season.
Insurance benefits at an affordable group rate.
    Managers were attentive and personable.
Great emphasis of creating a team culture/camaraderie (departmentally).
    Internal advancement opportunities.
    Physical activity substantially improves physique.
HR personnel was readily accessible. They provide you with the info that you seek.
    Tenure based perks.
    Professional environment with casual attire.
Vacation time, paid time off, unpaid time off, and holiday pay.

    Cons

Work life balance can be difficult (especially during peak season).
    Physical exhaustion daily.
Recovery time is insufficient at times.
The amount of work can diminish significantly after peak season, thus personnel is sent home early.
Quotas on night/day shift transfer approvals.

    Advice to Management

More consideration for night to day transfer requests based on circumstantial need would be appreciated. Some associates are also college students that have no control over upcoming semester class availability. Therefore, it would be appreciated to be able to discuss alternative options to upcoming conflicting semester schedules. The HR staff was very supportive and accepting of my resignation (sufficient notice and paperwork in order), however I would have liked to have been able to find a resolution to the conflicting work/school schedule that would have worked for both of us as opposed to having to leave after my transfer request was not approved.
