I have been working at Amazon (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome hours and had to cover multiple locations. Nice perks, but could always be better.

    Cons

Perks could have been better for a largely based sales company.

    Advice to Management

All management since then have left within a year of me starting t he position. That must mean something.

"Amazon is disillusioned and lost in the real world of sales and retail"

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazon - the customer service reputation helps create relationships. Initial team hired for offline Kindle sales was strong and amazing to work with. Current business plan will be focused on "Happy Hour and Party Offs". College centric recruitment and appeasement to our age...lots of free drinks and outings. Fun if you like to drink.

    Cons

Admitted Attrition Risks as "sales" people are fleeing as fast as they can find another job. Complete lack of understanding of sales including - "sales numbers are confidential". Yes, basic sales information is non-existent. No sales goals, no sales discussions, training or tracking. Amazon is an e-commerce and merchandising company with no experienced sales management or sales activities in place and they are proud of that, claiming it is the new "sales paradigm". A college friend told me he heard an Amazon sales manager speak and talk about how Harvard would be writing about what the Amazon sales team is doing. He was shocked at how out of touch Amazon was with the real world of sales and business. ZERO chance of promotion - all upper level jobs are placement with a high direct recruitment from Best Buy managers who focus 100% on merchandising and drinking with the team. Lowest paid sales job, no perks, no bonus, no commission, no car allowance, no office allowance. An award for exceptionalism equals - $25 Amazon gift card or two movie tickets. (Seriously) When I have applied to other sales jobs, Amazon is seen as a negative in this area not a positive I could not speak to KPI or any other information and experience they wanted for a sales job. I feel stuck here.

    Advice to Management

Be honest when hiring and admit you are NOT an "offline Kindle sales team" and that you are a Merchandising team. Stop blatantly lieing and misrepresenting yourselves as a sales team. Sales numbers and goals are not the enemy, lack of knowledge is. Quite possibly this is why the team has under performed again, Y o Y attrition in sales according to the retail side is declining faster than any other tablet sale manufacturer and it is 100% managements fault for being completely ignorant of sales and sales processes. How about that Fire Phone.....

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When I started I had wonderful coworkers. The benefits are incredible. The office space is very sleek & startup-like. Lots of vacation time.

    Cons

High management turnover. Promotions are purely political. No continued training. Call center vibe. The values of Amazon Local seemed to be very inconsistent with Amazon as a whole. No one cares whether or not you learn or grow, because they'll just replace you with someone greener, and smarter.

    Advice to Management

Take pride in your hardworking employees and reward them accordingly. Consistently telling people they're replacable breeds a terrible office environment.

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You got to learn the best technology from them
A lot of smart people inside the organization
Huge office space, keep expanding and good to have its name on your CV
Got free flow of beer in the office.

    Cons

There is literally no work life balance inside this company. Your boss would send you last min notice and ask you to fill some funny report and get back to him in a few hours or so
But it never works on the reverse, people here don't reply to your email unless they report to you
The senior management here are as arrogant as you can imagine. Especially the most senior one in this office. everyone in the team is considered stupid and not good enough.

    Advice to Management

Treat your team like human beings
