I worked at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to learn a lot.
Your code goes into production very soon and often and you feel you are accomplishing something.
Lot of smart people around you.

    Cons

Employees are treated very badly by their managers.
There will be no guidance from anyone even if you are very new to the industry. All they need is you pushing code.
There won't be any ramp up time. As soon as you join immediate week you are assigned tasks and are expected to finish them.
They recruit many new grads because they know they would spend more time in office as they do not have much of responsibilities.
It is the worst place for people who need personal time. Women don't even think of having kids if you are in Amazon else your kids will starve to death.

    Pros

Popular, global, growth, momentum, AWS. Perhaps, a good environment for pure java heads, who want to keep being stuck in a cloud.

    Cons

One embrace all mentality->outdated tools->ignorance rules. Java only, browser only. Does not associate with either rain forest or Brazil, really?!

    Advice to Management

    stop hiding the truth

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love working for a company customers love. Every time someone learns I work for Amazon I hear a story about why they love Prime or their Kindle. Many people also have great stories about customer service going above and beyond. This is vastly different from other companies I've worked at where the first priority was profit and cool tech regardless of what customers wanted.

I also like the clear guidelines about career, expectations at each level and parallel tracks for Individual Contributors vs Managers. This isn't one of those companies where you have to become a manager at some point if what you are is a really skilled Engineer.

Amazon really follows their Leadership Principles. These aren't platitudes but goals and ideals that drive how we do our work, how we work with others and how we design our products every day.

Some really great people work here and we work on some pretty cool things, which makes coming to work something to look forward to instead of a daily grind.

    Cons

Schedules can be grueling around big releases and winter holidays due to the nature of the retail business.

Some groups/projects are better than others and you need to make sure you're part of a good team. Certainly not unique to Amazon but there are definitely some people at the company who are just unpleasant to work with or don't manage their teams and schedules well.

    Advice to Management

Cross-organization reviews of feedback on individuals would help to identify issues, particularly of those in leadership positions, where immediate management is ignoring systemic problems within a particular group.

    Pros

Great cultural values that makes you think about how to run the company from the management perspective. One of the best companies to develop your career and to develop strong work ethic. Lot's of former ex-Amazonians have come back.

    Cons

Frugality is a pain when another tech company down the street offers free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My friends claimed I suffered Stockholm Syndrome.

    Advice to Management

Shorter release cycles and more perks!

    Pros

clear job definition and responsibility. Nice team to work without any issue. Recommend to work for amazon if any chances. Good pay and good benefit.

    Cons

too many re-org occurred in the middle without notification or further notice. Too many projects own in one person and expect employee to have multi-skills for all.

    Advice to Management

need to listen engineers what they think and how to distribute management thought down to bottom. it needs to have more communication channel.
