I have been working at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great on-boarding! Amazon insists that all new staff "learn to walk before they [are allowed to] run." Lot's of training in the unique Amazon ways.

Support from management -- locally and globally -- is terrific. They are as invested in your success as you are, which is really refreshing.

    Cons

The unique recruitment process can be very long (4-12 weeks, or longer). A "necessary evil" to screen and recruit the best and brightness but potentially agonising for some candidates.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!!

I have been working at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You are expected to learn and you'll have a lot of time to do that. Sign up bonus, sometimes relocation bonus, excellent compensation. You are working with the best, even though they are humble and they help you in anything you need (but don't expect them to spend a lot of time explaining, just ask for directions on where to find the documentation).

    Cons

Everything changes so fast. You have a LOT to learn in the beginning, Amazon has its own way of doing everything and you have to learn the best practices. No free lunch, but compensated with your earnings, so you can choose where to eat, anyways you'll lose some time there, and you are expected to do so. Noone will sit with you and explain how things work for more than 15 minutes, you'll have to read a lot, but it's worth it, after that you'll be more independent.

    Cons

    - Sydney office does not have as many opportunities as the USA office.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazon allows their employees to take a great amount of ownership over ideas brought to the business. It is very exciting to be part of such a large organization that can still feel very much like a startup.

    Cons

A high level of ownership over your business also comes with great responsibility. The heavy workload in such an ambiguous environment can be difficult to manage at times. You need to draw boundaries for yourself, no one will do it for you.

    Advice to Management

So much is expected of employees that recognition is rarely given. More positive reinforcements and higher energy coming from the top would be beneficial to the morale of the group.
