The company is growing very fast. So more career opportunities.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to deal with interesting problems, involvement in very large architecture design, monitoring, and maintenance, smart coworkers, good compensation

    Cons

The work is complex and new requirements can appear quickly, which can be a bit mentally draining. With so many smart people on the teams, the impact of your work will likely be lower for the first few years than your previous position.

    Advice to Management

Improve the promotion process from SDE II to SDE III

I have been working at Amazon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great on-boarding process for new team members. Great learning opportunities (training, job shadow, certification paths). Everybody is very helpful and friendly. A strong and very capable team.
Low administrative overhead with a lot of things being done lean.
The Amazon Leadership Principles come up in pretty much everything we do and is something that serves as inspiration.

    Cons

The drawback of being on a fast-growing team is that almost everybody in the team is new to Amazon. We compensate for this by having mentors elsewhere in the organization and by being resourceful in settling in.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Looks good on the resume
    - Good compensation
    - Ok work/life balance

    Cons

The culture is horrible! In order to progress one should play the "pick the leadership principle that is best fitted to what you want".

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits start on the first day of work and the package is pretty good for what the work is.

    Cons

Management doesn't have a clue of what they are doing, they don't seem to know much about the place they are working for or the procedures in place either. They don't screen their employees at all, so when they request you to be able to lift 50lbs more than half of the people hired can't

    Advice to Management

Learn the proper procedures of the work place, treat your associates with respect and learn to look up from your computers from time to time and help out around the floor.

I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team, smart people, mostly relaxed and easygoing, yet competitive and forward moving work environment, great pay + benefits + fun perks.

    Cons

    - Oncall rotation and workload can chip away at people's desire to stick around long term, and thus attrition can be a problem.
    - Politics are sometimes an issue; we deal directly with fulfillment centers, and politics can hamper our progress or throw us months behind on critical projects
    - Lack of consistency in daily workflows, can be seen as positive or negative.
    - Despite leadership principles advocating otherwise, lots of short-sighted decisions and thinking due to realities of business.

    Advice to Management

Overall keep doing what you're doing. Keep employees inspired by being open about medium and longer term goals to get them excited, and actively working on these.
Reduce the KTLO and oncall burden as much as possible for SDEs, to allow them to be creative, take risks and innovate.

    - corporate ladder is too long.
