I have been working at Amazon

    Pros

Opportunity to work on many different projects, smart people in general. Genuinely oriented towards customers.

    Cons

Constant, time-wasting micro-management. Absurd attention to tiny details by the most senior managers and VPs, and certainly by Bezos himself. Often a sense of wasted effort when some VP's whim changes. A very decentralized organization, which can make things very political--often the loudest jerk wins the argument.

    Advice to Management

Trust employees to do their jobs better. Stop meddling. Provide actual strategic leadership, not vague ideas about "doing better." Also: get your dicks out of your hands and start providing some resources for professional development: educational and training budgets, conference travel, etc. Amazon is very frugal, to the point of being stingy with pretty much every benefit other than salary.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good teams, work with some of the best people in the industry. Good competitive pay.

    Cons

No investment in stafff once you're in. Very slow to get anything done. Very risk averse. Have to do everything yourself and you won't get thanked.

    Advice to Management

Listen and invest in your employees. A 50% staff turnover in less than 2 years speaks volumes for how bad things are.
