I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

People are required to be highly autonomous and are empowered to make decisions from day one. There are several (horizontal) possibilities to develop and build a career (across functions and across geographies), seen the fast pace at which Amazon grows. Colleagues are bright and normally fun to work with.

    Cons

People should not expect to be coached daily by their managers, they need to be self-starter and learn via self-training and while performing the job. Amazon systems evolve continuously: once you begin to master a specific tool it will be likely about to be replaced with a new one. A typical work day is plenty of interesting challenges, yet very demanding.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Fast-paced shift-work that generally goes by fast. -Benefits are good and affordable -Salary is a step up from similar jobs at competitors -Opportunity for advancement (at least for now since the company is growing so fast) -Occasional gratification that you're having a real impact on a company as large as Amazon -Limited stock options -Military friendly (if you're a reservist or National Guard)

    Cons

-Generally poor leadership at all levels; shift managers are under-trained and some are borderline incompetent; ops managers could generally care less about you. Anyone above this level doesn't even know you exist. -(Sometimes) very long hours. 80+ hour weeks during peak (busy season) are the norm but you are still only paid to work 40. (You will sleep in the office at least once during peak). 55-60 hours/week are standard...

    Advice to Management

Start caring about your people and do what you say you're going to. There are SO many "leaders" at this company that say they will do things and then simply don't. Don't be one of those people. DO your job. It is not just a title. Leaders actually lead.

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I met and collaborated with a lot of great minds. Work was fast paced, and I was able to be promoted from within but it was no easy task.

    Cons

Workload in the end became insane. Upper management had unrealistic expectations based on hours in a day.

    Advice to Management

Decide what programs are value added, when you add more to an already overflowing plate, take something away. Allow Safety to actually be able to spend a decent amount of time on the floor, not wasting time on useless metrics.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very competitive compensation packages, Excellent benefits from day 1, lots of opportunities for career advancement either at Amazon or through educational opportunities, the chance to work all over the world if you desire. You really do get back what you put in. Come to work happy and ready to do you best everyday and you will probably love it here, if you come in upset and always complaining and just do what it takes...

    Cons

It can be hard to get into some positions, sometimes growth and advancement can take time (you get back what you put in applies here too. If you are flexible you might move faster if you aren't it may take longer). Expect faced paced work, lots of standing and walking, a lot of lifting and moving items. Expect that if you are new to the environment the first several weeks WILL be hard physically as you condition your...

    Advice to Management

Better prepare newcomers for the physical demands. Maybe a company sponsored video on work conditioning tips to get people ready and give them a chance to start getting more fit before Day 1. And a handout "tips from the pros" on ways to make Day 1 - 30 easier like best shoes for standing, insoles people have tried and love, before work at-home stretching and after work stretching to stay stretched out better and not...

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Competitive pay. Generous time off options. Plenty of extra hours available. Great benefits.

    Cons

Plenty of mandatory overtime. Fast paced. Management required to change shifts and departments frequently which makes it hard for employees to build relationship with management and makes it hard for management to have better work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Quit rewarding associates who slack off and are lazy.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fast pace, challenging, with plenty of opportunity to deep dive data or have extensive engagement with your team. This role can truly by molded to what you want it to be, as long as you complete your standard work and you have the support of your PAs in running your shift.

    Cons

Intense schedules and high pressure environment. Toxic/incompetent PAs can cause a lot more work.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about how people are held accountable for not doing their jobs.

    Pros

    - Compensation is slightly above the average - Company grows at a fast pace - You are owning everything, which means you have exposure to different areas

    Cons

    - Oncall rotation. You will get paged at midnight or weekends - Less perks than competitors - You are owning everything, which means you hold more responsibilities than you expected.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are a number of teams with builder mentality and continuously try to innovate and build new things. Its a fast paced environment. You will find extremely smart colleagues and the bar is high. You may be a top tier in your current company but top tier performance has a different meaning over here.

    Cons

Promotion process is very different compared to rest of the industry. Get in the right level if not it will take couple of years to get to the next level
