I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

      - You will learn something new every single day. - You will learn new skills that are outside of your comfort zone. - You can make a big impact no matter what your strengths are. - You get out, what you put in. - Promotions are generally very clear, your performance, and ability to develop/influence others dictates promotion.

      Cons

      - Some managers are very lazy, and give no effort. - Lack of accountability sometimes. (Depends on your facility) - Work Life balance is rough. They are making efforts to improve this for L4 and L5 managers. But since Ive been employeed for almost 4 years (now an L6), you will put in long hours, and pretty intense hours.

      Advice to Management

Hold everyone equally accountable. Dont allow lazy managers to coast, that increases the workload for higher performers.

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Constantly learning how to innovate. The firm is truly focused on customers, and able to invest for the long term on helping them.

      Cons

Long hours, and people tend to become maxed out quickly.

      Advice to Management

Improve expense policy. Senior people dont want to fly coach, and we are at a competitive disadvantage due to this within AWS,

I have been working at Amazon full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

Smart, highly motivated people. Exceptional pay due to stock performance. Huge economic and societal impact. Company is still trusted by customers more than most other tech companies.

        Cons

Pressure-cooker environment. Highly process-based with little trust placed on individuals. No institutional emphasis on employee well-being built into leadership principles or manager reviews. High re-org churn and burnout rate means there's no point to develop interpersonal relationships with peers. Flat org structure and huge leaps in pay and responsibilities between levels makes promotions nearly impossible past a...

        Advice to Management

It's a goals-oriented culture, and there is nothing in the goals about creating healthy teams and ensuring employee well-being. Your burn rate among engineers in the US is exceptionally high, forcing you to increasingly rely on cheaper overseas engineers, which leads to even higher burnout as people routinely put in 14 hour days to make meetings with people halfway around the world. Ownership is a good leadership principle...

I worked at Amazon full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

Great benefits, different shift options, allows you to get personal accommodations. for school. Opportunity to grow within the company, but they won't hold your hand either. You gotta have somewhat of ambition to seek the opportunities they offer.

        Cons

During the peak, there will be long hours 40 + hours

        Advice to Management

When hiring or promoting within make sure they indeed are capable of doing their job. I like that Amazon hired Area Managers right out of College, but they should make sure that they are able to do all the job positions within their department they got hired to do. I've seen a few that are have no clue how to do a certain job or how something works. Overall I had a great experience working at Amazon.

        Cons

Long commute, long hours, the higher up the pecking scale the longer the hours

        Advice to Management

I would suggest moving to three 8 hour shifts rather than two 10 hour shifts. Productivity seemed to be going down hill after 8 hours as it was.
