I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Joined the company because it appeared to be a structured EPC with European management culture and a good reputation.

    Cons

Incompetent management that chooses leads who do not have any soft (people) skills. Canadian operations are managed by the Houston office. The company shows a very little respect to their clients, adopting a very confrontational attitude.

    Pros

Good projects and get to work with some good equipment. University interaction is OK but always pretty time consuming

    Cons

Limited scope within the projects to progress. Quite short-term focused. Warrington might not be everyone's favourite place to work but honestly it's not that bad

    Advice to Management

I don't know if i can give advice because I'm not sure what their responsibilities are! I think they are limited by what is allowed by industrial standards and legal requirements

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time

    Pros

Benefits, pay was ok could've been way better

    Cons

Lack of communication, little to no help from home office, home office was not fully aware or involved with issues, many people work 7 days a week 12 plus hours a day

    Advice to Management

Better communication, job placement for those after a project finishes

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Bigger more well known company so tends to get bigger projects.
DDO program - extra days off for working longer hours
If it suits your personality and you can manage to make a good impression, you can keep your head down and do your job. You can keep to yourself and not have to interact much with others.

    Cons

Blame culture poisons relationships and prevents people from being accountable.
Hire and fire culture - little to no job security - rule by fear.
Lack of very experienced people - juniors and intermediates operating outside their capabilities.
    Little appetite for improvement.
Poor project managers with too much authority than need to be managed themselves (not all but many).
Managers out of touch with what is actually happening and what the issues are.
    Very political.

    Advice to Management

    Start over.

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Culture in the Ontario region was good - friendly, congenial, less mercenary than many engineering consultants. Management in the region had a fairly realistic approach to work/life balance, until the hard times forced it out.

    Cons

Pay was generally below competitors for the region, management focus on cost cutting reduced benefits. Poor market prospects combined with the recent acquisition means further cost cuttings and staff reductions are in store.

    Advice to Management

Try to engage workforce with more than platitudes to bring long term value. Good people can see through empty words, know when you are just chasing shareholder value.

    Pros

I enjoyed working there....when there were projects it was great...the immediate supervisor was one of the best I ever had.

    Cons

Mid Management was detached from the day to day office events...we were briefed every Friday morning meeting....the individual safety tips were a joke....no need to have them.

    Advice to Management

Higher management should play less politics and should look for more projects, mid management should pay more attention and be more loyal to the team. A good manager is loyal to the team.

    Pros

Even though the acquisition of FW by Amec led to a lot of departures of talent, there are some good people and leadership remaining with the company.

    Cons

Company needs to catch up with 21st century EPC tools, practices, so its people can succeed in today's and tomorrow's environment.

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Early part of career was excellent with good career progression and variety of work scope and different locations.

    Cons

Main downside was the particular division employed by. Total lack of management support and guidance and aversion of taking pointed advice to progress tasks to achieve better worker relationships and ultimately staff dedication and company end profit achievement

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive with all levels of staff and take on board constructive open discussions to achieve better working environments and staff dedication
