I have been working at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Knowledgeable staff, nice offices (more or less), kind coworkers, good benefits, many years of collective experience in this office. Great place to learn the industry and other professionals.
Overall, a rock-solid place with good people.

    Cons

Not sure how much potential there is for promotions internally. Pretty top/management heavy.
Dash cameras in company vehicles are kind of a bummer. "3 Strikes, you're out" company vehicle violations policy.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Thumbs up.

Unstable market, ever changing leadership and structural changes. Stressful to employees for various reasons, especially job stability and confidence levels.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like human beings, not robots.

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Foster Wheeler USED to be an employee oriented company until the merger with Amec. Good competent dedicated people. Conservative and risk averse approach to projects.

    Cons

Foster Wheeler was purchased by Amec about two years ago. The merger was like oil and water. Amec is not people oriented and seems to have no loyalty to long time Foster Wheeler employees. Their procedures are stifling and in some cases repetitive and unnecessary just for the sake of some upper manager wanting a report in a certain format. Travel policies are embarrassing. Try traveling for 20+ hours one way in economy class just so the company can save some money on their travel budget. They also reduced benefits such as reduced vacation time and severance packages. Morale is very low.

    Advice to Management

Adapt the Foster Wheeler approach to projects and streamline management reviews. Reinstate the legacy Foster Wheeler travel policies and benefits.

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people that make up the company itself. Great coworkers, clients and associates.

    Cons

Management does not care about the people. They only care about themselves and how high up they can get, regardless on how unethical they need to be or who they step-on to get up there.

    Pros

salary and benefit package was good. Employee HSE and sustainability objectives were there.

    Cons

Top level management had difficulty in securing projects. Typically bid to customer is too high. Rumor that performance on recent projects have been less than stellar. I believe that employees lost confidence in leadership.

    Advice to Management

Need to build on improving customer relationships as well as re-build employee confidence within the company.

I have been working at Amec Foster Wheeler part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They were winning some good projects at one time and the work can be interesting. They have good benefits and salary.

    Cons

Management changed and work flow changed so less emphasis on design work or so it seems. Haven't won any work in quite some time.

    Advice to Management

Probably need to look at role of management especially in scope definition and management of change for large scale projects.
