    Pros

Amedisys is a company with a focus on excellent patient care. The company is dedicated to becoming the employer of choice. Employee input is a major decision factor in how the company moves forward with benefits and technology.

    Cons

Healthcare, especially home health, is an ever-changing field. You must be able to adapt and take change in stride to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Continue to adapt to the ever-changing workforce. Also, keep your focus on finding benefits that employees find the most rewarding

I have been working at Amedisys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management is good and the mileage is also good. I love Homecare homebase for documentation and they do care about their employees.

    Cons

Staffing is a common issue and you'll have to work more to compensate until they fill spots which can take awhile. It's not really there fault but it does suck.

    Advice to Management

    Give regular raises

I have been working at Amedisys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    New equipment (tablet only)
Showing all their "cons" upfront so we can make
Fast career decisions and move on to better opportunities.

    Cons

Recent buyout by this company. Currently making no changes to benefit the employees. No plans to change work day productivity to better work-life balance. 50% decrease in vacation time. Company does not recognize 32hr employees as full time and therefore not benefited. (Terrible benefits anyway)
No work phone supplied- have to use personal.
Amedisys recognizes productivity as 5 patients per day (for RN) however old company productivity is 6-7 per day. Amedisys to make no changes to this.
Nurses are overworked, borderline forced overtime. Guilted in to taking extra patients.
No on-call service. Nurses have on-call requirement where they cover territory of 50+ towns 1-2x month.
    Poor weekend coverage.

    Advice to Management

    Seek alternative opportunities.

I have been working at Amedisys full-time

    Pros

Wonderful field staff, supportive of each other

    Cons

No support from managers and office staff. Clinician's are routinely disrespected, office staff is demanding and very unwilling to help clinicians. Office staff pushes as much work onto field staff as possible. Horrible work life balance. Clinicians are not listened to, routinely ignored and under valued. No pay raises given...ever. Will burn field staff out without a second thought. No one wants to work 60 and 70 hours a week then be on call during the week and weekends...hello!!!!!! Managers DO NOT know how to lead, poor leadership. This company purposely structures things in a way that means they get A LOT of free work out of clinicians. Everything is about money and numbers. Very low employee moral due to consistent not picking, no support and horrible leadership. Your needs and safety do not matter, you are a worker bee and you will not be listened too. Promises not kept, employees pacified and placated and nothing changes. Very poor communication. This company makes the job they hired you to do as hard as possible. Too much is expected and asked of emp!oyees and far too little is given in return.

    Advice to Management

Train managers to be leaders, and STOP putting people in managerial positions over employees if they have not actually done the job of those they are to manage. LISTEN to the people who are caring for the patients EVERYDAY. Stop blowing smoke and insulting the intelligence of your clinicians by pacifying and lying. Keep your word, TAKE CARE OF YOUR EMPLOYEES and the patients will be taken care off. Get rid of redundant charting and paperwork so clinicians can focus on patients. Stop pushing tons of work I.e. recert/ROC emails, apple forms etc... Off on pay per visit employees unless you are going to pay them for the extra work outside of the visit that has to be done to do those. GIVE YOUR EMPLOYEES RAISES CONSISTENTLY like other companies do. You want to really be an employer of choice? If so walk the walk instead of only talking the talk because right now you aren't even close!

I have been working at Amedisys part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All team members genuinely care about their patients and families. The pay is very good and annual raises are fair too.

    Cons

Our center is very short staffed! We cannot seem to keep employees, most especially nurses. This makes the work stressful and most of us are exhausted because we are having to pick up the slack!

    Advice to Management

We need leadership with good communication skills. It is imperative that those in management be able to lead the whole group.

I have been working at Amedisys full-time

    Pros

The patients are wonderful and are truly happy to see you. Some become extended family due to frequent flyer status or long term patient status.

    Cons

Unrealistic schedules. Unrealistic productivity expectations per week. Scheduled to see patients not in your zone. When you are expected to see one patient out in boon docks then drive 45 + minutes to next patient when another nurse is in that area. Locked minimum time requirement when a long term patient does not need 30 minutes to discuss diabetes that they've had for 40 years and can recite verbatim what they need to do and they are well controlled. Field nurses are over ruled by office staff, who have no clue about the patient, on discharges needed or non admits because they want to keep the patient on the books to make their numbers look good. The new computers/tablets were not designed by nurses for nurses but some geek programmer who has no idea about medical documentation. Information in one area does not carry over to the next when the same question is asked. Meetings that last 1-3 hours that do not accomplish anything or that could have been covered in a email. The training is not sufficient for new hires and then they send them out to a full schedule or overscheduled with 8-12, sometimes 15 patients and expected to get it all done in 8 hours. This action makes the patient quality of care suffer because we are expected to see X amount regardless of situations or emergency care of the patient. Being penalized because you can't see a patient who is in the hospital, admitted to hospice, or refuses care at the door once you arrive to the home after patient agrees to be seen. Keeping non homebound patients on the books after numerous documented notes of chasing them to pad their numbers. They can't keep staff in the field due to all of the above. Burn out is a high risk! Nurse turn over is one week to three months once they are in the field. If you voice complaints, or concerns you are disrespected, written up or terminated. I've seen awesome nurses terminated because they rocked the boat on how the field nurses are treated or if they refuse to see a non emergent patient because it would be the 12th one that day.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the field nurses! We are the ones in the trenches.

    Pros

Great hours. No fussing about being with family on holidays. Family oriented. Competitive pay. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Training lacks structure. A lot of driving involved in all types of weather.

    Advice to Management

Training needs more structure. There is a lot to learn. Watching videos is not sufficient training for most employees.
