I have been working at Amedisys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    New equipment (tablet only)
Showing all their "cons" upfront so we can make
Fast career decisions and move on to better opportunities.

    Cons

Recent buyout by this company. Currently making no changes to benefit the employees. No plans to change work day productivity to better work-life balance. 50% decrease in vacation time. Company does not recognize 32hr employees as full time and therefore not benefited. (Terrible benefits anyway)
No work phone supplied- have to use personal.
Amedisys recognizes productivity as 5 patients per day (for RN) however old company productivity is 6-7 per day. Amedisys to make no changes to this.
Nurses are overworked, borderline forced overtime. Guilted in to taking extra patients.
No on-call service. Nurses have on-call requirement where they cover territory of 50+ towns 1-2x month.
    Poor weekend coverage.

    Advice to Management

    Seek alternative opportunities.

I have been working at Amedisys full-time

    Pros

Wonderful field staff, supportive of each other

    Cons

No support from managers and office staff. Clinician's are routinely disrespected, office staff is demanding and very unwilling to help clinicians. Office staff pushes as much work onto field staff as possible. Horrible work life balance. Clinicians are not listened to, routinely ignored and under valued. No pay raises given...ever. Will burn field staff out without a second thought. No one wants to work 60 and 70 hours a week then be on call during the week and weekends...hello!!!!!! Managers DO NOT know how to lead, poor leadership. This company purposely structures things in a way that means they get A LOT of free work out of clinicians. Everything is about money and numbers. Very low employee moral due to consistent not picking, no support and horrible leadership. Your needs and safety do not matter, you are a worker bee and you will not be listened too. Promises not kept, employees pacified and placated and nothing changes. Very poor communication. This company makes the job they hired you to do as hard as possible. Too much is expected and asked of emp!oyees and far too little is given in return.

    Advice to Management

Train managers to be leaders, and STOP putting people in managerial positions over employees if they have not actually done the job of those they are to manage. LISTEN to the people who are caring for the patients EVERYDAY. Stop blowing smoke and insulting the intelligence of your clinicians by pacifying and lying. Keep your word, TAKE CARE OF YOUR EMPLOYEES and the patients will be taken care off. Get rid of redundant charting and paperwork so clinicians can focus on patients. Stop pushing tons of work I.e. recert/ROC emails, apple forms etc... Off on pay per visit employees unless you are going to pay them for the extra work outside of the visit that has to be done to do those. GIVE YOUR EMPLOYEES RAISES CONSISTENTLY like other companies do. You want to really be an employer of choice? If so walk the walk instead of only talking the talk because right now you aren't even close!

    Pros

Nurses are top notch! Very unappreciated.

    Cons

The management and office staff is horrible. They do not support the Home Care nurses. They are rude and angry.

    Advice to Management

Gut the office of all employees, and rehire new office staff. The office staff are extremely negative, and bully the nurses. It is a terrible place for Home Care nurses to work.

    Pros

Home Health is relatively flexible, or used to be.

    Cons

Substandard pay, no raise in 7 years, pay lower than other companies, long work days, average of 10 hours per day, patient's assigned randomly throughout the day. In general, this company has been in slow decline over the past few years. The company is no longer focused on providing quality care to their patients. It has become all about the numbers, numbers of admissions, numbers on star ratings, numbers of discharges and recerts. It is very sad as the company founder Bill Bourne, if he were still alive, would be sickened.

    Advice to Management

Learn to balance life and work. A happy employee is a productive and safe employee. An overworked, stressed employee is one who will walk out and never look back.

I worked at Amedisys (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good Coworkers, decent salary, free lung cancer from the ceilings insulation .

    Cons

Immoral management and incompetent leadership, a bug was discovered in the code that determines how home health providers were compensated, it was reported to management. To met with the response of "forget you saw it" when pressed on the issue, it was made clear they had no interest in making it right, and that this method have been used for years without complaint.

    Advice to Management

Being the company massively down sized, I'd suggest getting rid of the technical management you have left, and replace them with people who don't think like a fox pro programmer/used car salesmen hybrid.

I have been working at Amedisys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent coworkers, descent pay and benefits are adequate. Again... Coworkers make the job worth it, but that won't last forever due to the extremely high turnover.

    Cons

Management is only concerned with profit and making their numbers look good. Micromanagement, no training, long hours, under staffed no appreciation from management and the expectations are not achievable.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people hired to do the daily job, listen and appreciate them. Invest in training. The reason turnover is so high is due to under appreciated, over worked, micromanaged staff.

    Pros

My patients. I am a hospice nurse for a reason and it is all about the patients!! Most fulfilling job I have had since starting my nursing career.

    Cons

This company has grown way to large and way to corporate. The primary focus is on numbers and not the patients and most of the leadership is NOT clinical making this all that much more a fail in patient satisfaction. I am a contract worker so I can tell the truth to my patients who are repeatedly complaining about this company not having its act together and the poor communication. RN Case Managers are micro managed with their schedule being determined by business office. Company definitely stretches the boundaries determined by CMS to the point of teetering on fraud. Distorted view of importance when it comes to documentation. The software program is better suited for home health and largely redundant and irrelevant for hospice patients not to mention EXCESSIVE!!!! THE WORST COMMUNICATION WITHIN A COMPANY I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. The communication most often used is email. You do not call the nurse to tell them you have scheduled a last minute visit. You expect us to sync tablets and check emails frequently so we can be informed but how realistic is it for us to do this every half hour when we are in the field??

    Advice to Management

Get back to basics. It is important to document but this is WAY overkill. Nursing should be all about the patient care first, in hospice this is a MUST!!! Making your nurses stare at the tablet or laptop to do documentation while in the patients home is NOT good patient care!!!! Start with good communication between the field nurses and those in leadership. Giving a case manager a 10min heads up that the clinical manager and or business office has scheduled you to be somewhere is so wrong!!!! You must communicate to see where the nurse is with other visits and their schedule a phone call or text is much more effective for communicating than the email and sync system you have in place - I've never seen anything like this.

I worked at Amedisys (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Weekly team meetings with ancillary staff provided good care coordination.
    Good benefits.

    Cons

Computer system was not pro nursing, many more nursing advantages could have been put into the system to streamline work.
Management considered themselves to be a hierarchy.

Workplace injuries, e.g. needlestick injuries had no follow up whatsever to safeguard the RN.

    Advice to Management

Put more value on your nursing staff.
