I worked at AmeriHealth Caritas full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked with wonderful colleagues, many of whom were full of great ideas.
The flexibility and work-life balance was decent.
    Good location
Benefits were average for the region, but see notes below.

    Cons

    Where do I begin?
Management - zero accountability. ZERO. I observed some who displayed a complete lack of professionalism, others who were "checked out" and stayed in tunnel-like swim lanes. It was one of the most unorganized places I've ever worked, and that's largely because the leadership is so preoccupied self-promotion, that they don't actually do any real work. Mid-level consultants, managers and employees are doing all of the grunt work. There is a real "throw it over the wall" mentality that results in cyclical inactivity. No one was ever willing to step up and make a decision, so projects dragged on for days, weeks, months.
Benefits - as a healthcare company, one would expect that the company would provide more comprehensive benefits. There are no good education benefits available for employees to advance. Instead of spending a million dollars to upgrade the lobby, how about gym facilities for the staff, most of whom are pretty overweight from what I observed. Show some industry leadership!
Nepotism and favoritism - only a few get recognized and compensated accordingly. While on paper it appears to be a diverse company, its top-heavy leadership is overwhelmingly white. There needs to be more focus on placing QUALIFIED, TRAINED leadership that more aptly reflects the population they serve.

    Advice to Management

FIRE the CEO--how on earth, why on earth does he have THREE high-paying jobs? How could he possibly do any one of them effectively? Answer is, he ISN'T, and it shows. (Go back and read some of the reviews here about him specifically--you'll get a good picture)
After getting rid of the CEO, next is HR. The outsourced firm they use for agency work is horrendous. Bring it all back in-house, and hire folks that will create and employ policies that require accountability and transparency. Make sure comp packages are FAIR and equitable for everyone, not just a select few. Hire more QUALIFIED people of color in leadership roles--the majority of those I observed who were in them were WAAAY over their heads/had NO idea what they were doing or how to manage people. Get a gym...seriously. How much could it cost? It would significantly boost morale. Bump up the tuition reimbursement to align with the 21st century cost of going to college. The outlook for this industry is grim enough with the current administration...turnover could be significant unless there is a re-think on reduction of churn.

    Pros

The intern program was amazing. My manager provided many opportunities for me to learn technical skills and meet with other departments.

    Cons

Managers seem to be very busy so I had to navigate my own work, which is confusing sometimes and lack of instructions may lead to under-performance.
