I worked at American Academy of Dermatology full-time

    Pros

Good benefits the benefits they give is wondefful

    Cons

Management Sucks. They don't care one bit about you as long as you get the job done. Customer Service is the worse department you could work in.

    Advice to Management

CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR YOU AND THE NEED TO REVAMP THE WHOLE HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT. HUMAN RESOURCE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED THEY ARE NOT FOR THE EMPLOYEE THEY ARE FOR UPPER MANAGEMENT ONLY AND THEY CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. PLEASE BELIEVE..

I worked at American Academy of Dermatology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. They really care about their employees. They don't just talk the talk, they walk the walk.

    Cons

Small association so moving up can be difficult especially in some departments.

    Advice to Management

When a department has a lot of turnover, you need to take a deeper look into what is going on in the department.

I worked at American Academy of Dermatology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee benefits are decent, reduced workweek, telecommute opportunities, some travel.

    Cons

I've never worked at an association where members are SO involved in the minutia of operations. They get involved in lower level staffing issues, day-to-day project management, and any decision - no matter how small - has to be run through members. It really can derail a project or an idea, and evokes a culture of distrust in employees to do the jobs that they were hired to do. In addition, the lack of a "vision" or strategic plan for the organization often sends employees down rabbit holes, acting at the whim of a single member or two simply because of a personal interest.

    Advice to Management

Stop giving the vocal minority members a megaphone. Trust in your employees. Give CEO some employee engagement training that so employees are not left to feel like they are under appreciated or distrusted. Encourage the Academy to evolve and embrace a new day in health care - otherwise the perception is that dermatologists are not up to date on the ever-changing health care landscape.

I have been working at American Academy of Dermatology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work/life balance. Great benefits. Wonderful relationships with member dermatologists.

    Cons

Although senior management has undergone significant changes in recent years, the bad ones somehow still keep getting hired.
