I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    great flight benefits and flexibility

    Cons

this company is a joke, executives are greedy and cheap, they make millions yet they wont give their maintenance team a raise, hence why there's always maintenance delays, they spend money on cheap and toxic uniform, made their flight attendants sick and won't take responsibility.

    Advice to Management

start caring about your employees more and invest in them, stop being so cheap and greedy

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very laid back work environment and too laid back at time

    Cons

Sexist environment and poor local leadership. Brown noses seem to get a head and get special treatment over others. Too many departments when that aren't necessary.

    Advice to Management

Choose better team leads and make sure to provide actual training to new people in IT. Pay actual talent what they are worth. Flight benefits are not worth as much as being able to keep you bills paid.

I worked at American Airlines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Standby ticket if u can get it by chance.
Take your chance for two days to get a seat.
    One picnic per year.
    Bonus for managers and above.
    Two tickets if there's profit.

    Cons

Vendors will be your tech lead whether vendors is here or offshore.
Managers will give more weightage to vendor than fill timers.
Mostly vendor operated and full timers being used as a contractors. Your job will be over in less than six months.

Night time installs support and weekend support.
    Late hours are common.
Vacation can't be taken until end of the year. U accrue the vacation one day per month.
No unpaid leaves allowed even for relocation.
    No work from home policy.

Very rigid with respect to come in and out of office.
Once u r here you won't be able to get another job as I run stuck with monitoring policy of coming in and out. Greencard as a bait and then don't file.

U will have to take night and early morning calls with offshore vendors. They decide your work and give negative feedback to managers. Abusive managers use threat in one on one.

Old technologies like SOAP based services which won't be updated at all.
Excessive documentation and processes and agile is on paper only. You will regret if you are a talented developer.

Location is in Fort Worth and not dallas. Not easily accessible.
Feels no fun in office as very old rigid style of working.
Lay offs due to project closing or high oil prices in summer are common.

    Advice to Management

    Need to have better policies.

    Cons

Low starting wage. Lots of per diem hours. Seniority system also makes working conditions very difficult for new hires.

    Advice to Management

More information during orientation, interview and training about the lifestyle of a new flight atendant.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Adequate pay, easy to swap/trade shifts, flight benefits

    Cons

Bully-down management, labor relations feverish, no growth opportunities, built on politics, no union for schedulers and abusive management and pilots. Hiring is clueless, no one is qualified for their job, training is inadequate, HR has lost control. Almost all of our scheduling for the world's largest fleet is done with paper and pencil. Mandatory OT happens.

    Advice to Management

Build up employees, trust them and empower them. Quit micromanaging employees and let them make decisions. Quit hiring and promoting people who lie and charm their way to the top. Look at the workmanship and care of your employees who are responsible and embrace them, not neglect and abuse them. You are only promoting people who are lazy and spend time networking on the clock, charm isn't going to keep the company solvent. Take ownership of the culture and start dealing with labor relations.

I worked at American Airlines full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The flight benefits are what keeps the turnover lower than what it should be.

    Cons

You're just a number. American Airlines treats those working in Fleet Services like children. The lack of trust and human decency made working here miserable. Everything is driven by on-time performance, so there is incentive for managers to micro manage the process around receiving and dispatching aircraft.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. Make them feel vested in the company and not just a disposable number.

Start caring about your employees instead of your executives
