I worked at American Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, flexibility, independence and great co-workers! The job is whàt you make it. Had some great conversations and learned so much from our passengers. Got to see the world and stay at very nice hotels. The world seems a lot smaller when you take advantage of the flight benefits...friendlier too!

    Cons

Corporate mngment....who may fly privately, needs to walk a mile or spend a day with an agent or crew member, to realize how impossible some of their policies and procedures are for their employees and their passengers. And that, I'm sure is not just the case with American.

    Advice to Management

You had better start treating passengers and employees with more respect for their time and well being....or the government will be doing it for you....and to quote a senator..."your not going to like it"

I have been working at American Airlines full-time

    Pros

    Flight benefits
    Good compensation and benefits

    Cons

Management changes mind in middle of project from day to day.
    Inconsistent leadership
    Mind games
Department director says one thing and does another.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at managing directors. There is a specialized group in your finance area where senior management meetings are nothing more than directors making fun of staff people. This is instigated by your managing director. It is sickening and ridiculous. There is nothing inspirational about that and it is certainly not professional behavior. I spoke up about that and tried to get things more positive and was attacked by leadership. When a staff isn't performing, management should be working with those employees. That isn't happening in this group. Instead there are essentially bullies trying to lead and failing miserably. The staff is scared to death of losing their tenure, their positions if they speak up. It's really disgusting. In a senior management meeting, I heard a managing Director make fun of a manager for completing manager training. "Now she thinks she is an expert manager." It was sarcastic and rude. That is just one example. There are many others. It makes me wonder what is said when I'm not in the room.
