I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Somewhat stable...Longevity as an employee is attainable...Exciting work but can be very physical...

    Cons

Employees will be on nightshift for very long time if they are Aircraft Maintenance Technicians...Work rules have been eroded due to past bankruptcy...Benefits are average... Management Team is inexperienced and rather combative...Recent takeover has left all work groups struggling to regain their footing...There is a lot of responsibility but the wages do not reflect it...Work group is represented by a weak and ineffectual Union.

    Advice to Management

Let the employees be more involved in the decision making at local level

I worked at American Airlines part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Health benefits are good, access to world travel is great, moderate flexibility in work schedule.

    Cons

Daily schedule always subject to change due to weather and/or maintenance. Part-time workers have little to no control over work day. Stressful.

    Advice to Management

Airport station managers need to be better trained and/or educated. Management need to treat front-line staff with more respect and not undermine employees authority. There needs to be more training and room for advancement.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flights are so full these days it is very difficult for employees to get a seat

    Cons

Working with the public is always a challenge. Unfortunately in all customer service work environments customers often have zero common courtesy. Heck, people in general forget what their mothers taught them at a young age! I strive to not join that group! Lol. But true.

    Advice to Management

Try to look at people with compassion during interviews and remember how nervous they are. People who "ace" interviews can end up being bad employees who know how to work it. The people who will do the best job and often want it the most can't always come across polished because they really care. Sounds weird but I've seen it time and time again.
