I worked at American Campus Communities full-time

    Pros

I loved my immediate supervisors. They were supportive, kind, and they listened when I had a concern or an idea for improvement. My staff was also amazing. I had the best Skeleton Crew on a shoestring budget. Benefits were good, a large network at corporate that you can reach out to for help.

    Cons

Managed properties aren't treated the same although we consistently outshine the owned properties. Impossible to transfer within the company.

    Advice to Management

Make it easier for current employees to transfer to other locations. You have staff that love the company they work for and yet they can't even get an interview at a different property. I was lucky enough to have my current supervisors recommend me but still no interviews! I was forced to leave the company when my property was sold. I'm now working for the competition. They pay higher wages, they offer commissions, and bonuses. Money isn't everything though and I would've stayed with ACC, it just wasn't an option.

I have been working at American Campus Communities part-time

    Pros

Discount on rent, make a lot of friends, pretty easy job

    Cons

Have to deal with all complaints even if you don't know the answer because management refuses to deal with any issues. Forced to work every day for 12+ hours a day for the entire month of August (including weekends). Work sometimes gets in the way of school work. Doesn't seem like management really cares about the community assistants very much.

    Advice to Management

Make it seem like you care about the community assistants. We have had many people from the corporate office come to our property and they hardly ever interact with us and when they do they're very stand offish and condescending

    Pros

You receive free housing I don't know if that has changed since then but that really helped out a lot while in school.

    Cons

I only made $75 Bi-Weekly before overtime was added

I worked at American Campus Communities part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free food from events

Student housing facility was really nice

Management took us out to a nice restaurant one time

    Cons

The so called "free student housing" isn't free or really discounted. - Before I applied I was promised on getting an amazing deal on student housing. After accepting the position, I was told I would have to work 20 hours a week to have my room paid off for. I've heard this model has changed but it doesn't sound any better. I would have been better finding any other job that paid more than $8.00 an hour.

They expect you to do a lot of work off the clock. Once a month, we had a meeting where we were to present plans, marketing material, and a budget for student events. We could not work on any of this while on the clock.

Being on-call one week every month. - Management gave us a flip phone and told us to not leave the premises after hours for one week every month. We would get calls from residents asking for help on a variety of issues. This ranged from assisting students who have been locked out of their apartment to 2:00 am calls asking to break up a neighbor's party. We weren't paid for most of the time we were on-call.

Your also a leasing agent with high quotas set by management but no bonuses or commission.

I agree with most other reviews on here. We get a lot of work for not a lot of pay or benefits.
