I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Results oriented workforce. Great benefits and retirement packages. Flex work hours. Minimal travel outside of your community portfolio. Working with the volunteers and community members is the most rewarding part of the job.

    Cons

Minimal advancement opportunity and raises in salary even when reaching portfolio goals. Tedious webinars and training seminars that required annually.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your field staff. This organization needs to remain volunteer oriented not run by "suits".

    Pros

Raising money to support some of the most ambitious and young determined minds.

From the CEO down, management does not care about top performing staff, every single leader at the society will give a promotion to a friend or former colleague over a quality staff person.

    Advice to Management

Manage to high performance and reward top performers.
