I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Mission, Wonderful Co-workers, Good benefits and PTO policies (although they are being cut/reduced almost annually).

    Cons

Over the past 5 years the organization has gone through several "transformations" and a great deal of change which has included a number of lay-offs. Job security is questionable at almost all levels. Constant changes being implemented by national organization - not enough time allowed to see if they work before other dramatic changes are implemented. Lots of turn-over of employees due to this constantly changing and stressful environment. Not a lot of opportunity for growth and organization doesn't put a priority on helping employees move up.

    Advice to Management

Too much change and not enough time given to allow for employees to implement for success.

I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work environment is very supportive and the staff and managers work very hard to find and support community volunteers to help provide our services to cancer patients and their family. Flexible work environment and supportive for those who are innovative and self-starters. Organization frequently changes so if you are savvy, always ways to move around within the organization from an entry level role. Amazing benefits and PTO.

    Cons

If someone isn't ready for change or isn't flexible, this isn't the environment for you. You have to be willing to learn and find your own path, so if you don't have strong direction and are not used to that work environment, you may feel lost.
