I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time

    Pros

Great place to work, friendly/genuine individuals who are looking to end cancer. Great benefits and flexibility if you have a family, and don't want to be locked to the two week off a year timeframe.

    Cons

Not a lot of mobility upwards or merit increases. Not really a downside of ACS more of non-profit. Great that they are very strict with where the funds go, and make sure it goes back into research.

I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The American Cancer Society is a wonderful place to work. It is not every job where you feel, even on the hardest days, that you are literally making a difference in the lives of others. To know that each day the work that we do impacts millions of cancer survivors, patients and caregivers if a feeling that cannot be replicated in many places. ACS truly cares about their employees, treats them with respect and will go out of their way to assist you in career and professional development.

    Cons

Working in the non-profit industry, many of the rewards come in the form of intrinsic values. Though ACS does pay well for a non-profit, there is much expected of the staff on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

With the many changes that happen in the organization, continue to keep the staff in the loop and up to date as early and as soon as possible. Change can be a scary thing, but can also be a good thing if managed appropriately.

I worked at American Cancer Society full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits that includes full coverage insurance and retirement!

    Cons

Hours are definitely crazy in the summer. If you don't want evening hours and weekends for events, you don't want this job.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone is a young, energetic go-getter, doesn't mean they are right for this job in the smaller more rural areas. Finding peopleilder than their 20's that have insight into the community, probably kids in or through school, experience in Relay itself, and other small community events, is going to be more effective in establishing good relationships with the communities and make Relay strong.

  10. "Great Learning Experience"
