I worked at American Century Investments as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hard-working, intelligent employees with a great sense of humor. Many career opportunities under one roof. 40% of all profits go to the Stowers Institute for Medical Research which looks for the cure for cancer.

    Cons

Office is dreadfully outdated and location is lacking,

    Advice to Management

Put forward the funding necessary to completely renovate the tower so that you can continue to attract top talent and provide a collaborative open work-space for employees.

I worked at American Century Investments full-time

    Pros

Most of the employees are friendly. Good benefits including gym membership and health insurance (low premiums). Good work life balance - unless, of course, you fall behind in your work.

    Cons

Office environment stuck in the 1980's - possibly because of the tenured employees. Seasoned employees are helpful to a point - can be political if you pose a threat to their "territory".

    Advice to Management

Need to support/create a mentoring program to allow mobility and reward the highly potential employees. Also, prevents from having a golden goose and relying on that person to get work completed.

    Pros

Mr Stowers created a great legacy

    Cons

Company tends to allow under performers to continue employment instead of dealing with performance issues

    Advice to Management

Do not let Mr Stowers legacy die. There as a reason he was successful, and the more you stray away from his principles, sooner or later it will catch up to,you.

I have been working at American Century Investments full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people at American Century are top-notch. It's nice to work for a company whose profits go toward cancer research, it feels like you are working for the greater good of mankind.

    Cons

The company has gotten into a bad habit of implementing changes before they have been thoroughly tested because they want to meet a deadline. Sometimes extending a deadline can save a lot of headaches.

    Advice to Management

Management should make it a point to occasionally visit floors other than the one they work on. There are many employees who would feel so much more appreciated if you would just walk by and say hello from time to time.
