    Pros

Family friendly organization focused on improving patient care. Opportunities for self starters who want to do good for medicine and society.

    Cons

Very busy organization that tries to do everything for everybody. Had embarked on a process to narrow focus and streamline processes.

    Pros

Good benefits for medical. Paid time off. Good breaks from work for staff meetings, usually followed by free food.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

HR to be investigated. Management to be trained equally. Favoritism to be eliminated. be sincere about morale building. Recognize your hard working and loyal staff in a positive way. Eliminate the mean managers.

I worked at American College of Radiology full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, work/life balance, although the department i was in did not really have flexible hours. Very nice, pleasant offices.

    Cons

Not enough work to do, it was like working for the government. Supervisor was a micro manager and very negative. Large assn so not as much variety in your work and very departmentalized.

    Advice to Management

In some departments there are really too many employees. Sometimes there were hours where we had nothing to do but the supervisor always said how busy things were.

    Pros

The company has good benefits and flexible work schedules.

    Cons

Sub-par management, top down leadership in some departments that relies too heavily on senior management. This has resulted in silo'd departments with severed clusters of teams, barriers and dysfunction. Too many supervisory positions filled with less experienced individuals that are growing into their positions. Little ability for transparency for corrective action based on the top down leadership driven tendencies, organization or disorganization of the department supervising structure, and lack of awareness.

    Advice to Management

Include a bidirectional process for evaluation of supervisors. Re-evaluate those departments that may need more attention and reorganize supervising structures based on deficiencies. Promote or demote where appropriate.

    Pros

Great co workers and semi friendly work environment.

    Cons

Promotions are within the company and very little chance of moving up especially if you are not part of the in group of upper management.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire from the outside to bring in new ideas.

I worked at American College of Radiology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, newly renovated office space, decent benefits package

    Cons

No room for growth/promotion, no autonomy, expect to be micromanaged at every turn, HR controls employee appraisals and opportunity for a promotion without having any knowledge about the individual employee and his/her responsibilities and work ethic. There was essentially zero transparency from senior staff so there was a feeling of general unease and low morale among everyone.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees fairly and compensate them appropriately. There's a reason for the high turn over rate and incredible amount of vacancies. It's actually more economical to pay your current employees more than it is to train a new employee. Stop treating people like expendable commodities.

I worked at American College of Radiology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

somewhat flexible, ok benefits, generally good people to work with, nice building and accessible to new metro station

    Cons

Where to begin. The ACR is too big for its own good. There are so many layers of managers, directors, senior managers, vp's, member leadership that no one can make a decision on anything. There are meetings for the sake of meetings that get stupid. Policies not consistent across departments, strategic plan process was a joke, no one works together, the internal politics of "owning" a project are insane to a point there is no collaboration on many projects.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the layers of middle managers, combine systems (way too many different databases), and learn to trust that employees will do their jobs well when given the right resources to do them.

I worked at American College of Radiology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good Benefits, Nice location and building.

    Cons

Pay was very poor for the amount of work expected. Very poor leadership, managers did not take responsibility for projects and offered little or no support for workload. The HR department was not willing to help with Managerial disputes and solved any small problem with termination.

    Advice to Management

Try listening to your employees and help them when they are overwhelmed instead of dictating deadlines and giving them no support. Managers should foster an atmosphere of cooperation not coercion.
