I have been working at American Crystal Sugar full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get a week off every month and you get every summer off

    Cons

The 12 hour rotating shifts are not easy especially if you have a family

    Advice to Management

Management does not need any advice they're doing a great job.

    Pros

Good insurance, lots of time off, pretty good pay scale. They had a lot of incentives for employee's such as catered food, free shirts.

    Cons

They expect you to be very flexible with your schedule. Coming in on your days off is pretty much expected of you.

I have been working at American Crystal Sugar full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good insurance. Most co-workers are good to work with.

    Cons

Micromanaged. DuPont schedule sucks. Actually maintain equipment instead of kiss the boo-boo and put a band-aid on. Almost zero chance to advance to a higher tech grade pay position. Favoritism.
Even a packaging supervisor quit this place for a better job.
A probable lock-out is coming at the end of July.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat people like they are disposable. Work either days or nights. More people will stay if they don't have to rotate their sleeping times 12-hours twice a week.
This place is a paycheck and insurance. Little else.

I worked at American Crystal Sugar full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company does offer competitive pay, competitive benefits, DuPont schedule and plenty of overtime, holiday work to the people who like to put in a lot of hours.

    Cons

Company complains that they don't have enough help, but at the same time, they are always are looking for ways to get rid of people. I used to like American Crystal Sugar, not anymore. Being fired was a blessing in disguise though I had Years of hard work and dedication in.

    Advice to Management

Fire certain people in HR, appreciate your employees, especially the ones who have been there for years like me. I think it should be Crystals best interest not to have such a high turnover rate.

    Pros

Good pay for someone with no other options.

    Cons

The facilities are utterly disgusting. It is a depressing place to work at. Machinery is clearly in disrepair. I did industrial cleaning in their facilities and I saw things that no one should see inside of their machines. The place is unionized and most workers have little incentive to work hard if at all. Contractors are heavily relied on.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the union guys. Update your machinery. Do a complete overhaul on your facilities.

when they shut down in the summer you become a maintenance worker regardless of your actual position

    Advice to Management

rethink your choices for supervisor positions

I worked at American Crystal Sugar full-time

    Pros

    16hr to start. Mediocre benefits.

    Cons

Terrible, and I mean really terrible, supervisors. Ancient equipment. Unsafe conditions. Union that does nothing. Horrible hours, do you want to work fro mn 8pm-8am for $16hr? Do yourself a favor and look very hard for any other job, you will hate this one within 2 months.

    Advice to Management

Fire all of your supervisors in the Moorhead factory on the packaging side. And invest in your equipment.
