I have been working at American Eagle Outfitters part-time

    Pros

-Very laid-back environment most of the time. Literally all of the people who work in my store are between the ages of 15-30. Most of my co-workers and managers are friendly and ready to assist in any way they can.
-Awesome employee discount - 60% off 12 items every floorset, 40% off all the time, and an extra 25% off clearance. Sometimes there are contests and other special promotions for employees.
-Corporate seems to be forward-thinking and coming up with ways to help us do our jobs more efficiently. Ex: Our POS system was recently updated, giving us a much easier way to look up a customer's rewards account.

    Cons

-Very minimal training. You basically watch a few 5 minute videos during orientation before being thrown out onto the sales floor. I've been working here for 3 months and I'm still learning things that should have been explained to me on day one.
-Managers are EXTREMELY inconsistent with rules and procedures and are constantly giving me conflicting information. I literally have to do things differently depending on which manager I'm working with, which is ridiculous. Everyone needs to be on the same page.
-There is a big emphasis on meeting sales goals as well as getting customers to sign up for rewards and credit cards. Managers get mad if you don't get a lot of people to sign up for these, and your hours are based on how many sign-ups you get.
-Hours are wildly inconsistent; one week I was literally scheduled every single day and the next I worked twice.
-Pay is just slightly above minimum wage.
-Customers can be annoying but that is to be expected with any service industry job.

    Advice to Management

Improve training for new associates; not everyone learns best from just watching videos. Try to get management on the same page, it gets frustrating when all of my managers are telling me different things.

I have been working at American Eagle Outfitters part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really good hours if you sell credit cards and rewards

    Cons

they really don't give you raises or bonuses at all. And they will probably keep you at minimum for the first year, but that's not a lie so they can't get mad I said this

    Advice to Management

    give performance based raises

I have been working at American Eagle Outfitters part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generally, everyone who works here is great. Store manager isn't the greatest, but I would imagine that this isn't universally the case.
GREAT employee discount: 60% off your first 12 items/floor set up to $60 per item (so basically 60% off everything but jackets.) 40% off otherwise. 25% off clearance.

    Cons

Hours are very inconsistent. I will have weeks that I have 5 shifts that are 8 hours long, and other weeks where I have one four hour shift. No obvious pattern to it either.

    Advice to Management

When your employees ask for hours, and make good sales, give them hours, don't hire new people if people are already getting very few hours, feels like the company doesn't care about the SA's as a result.
