I have been working at American Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Brilliantly supportive employers, great flexible working arrangements, bonus days off in the summer, ability to work remotely, great development opportunities.

    Cons

Often tied up in processes conducted in a remote office in another country with no available information on how to contact them - can make basic admin tasks very frustrating.

I have been working at American Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The development opportunities are good, salary ok, and the perks that come with being a travel consultant at American Express are great (stays in hotels all over the world, invitations to networking events, restaurants, etc).
American Express as a company does have the right values and I have always felt supported in terms of health and family issues.

    Cons

Schedules are quite strict, the daily breaks are set, you must adhere to them or request permission to change them. Your time and performance being tracked all the time can be stressful but this is what you sign up for when working for a big corporation.

    Advice to Management

Communication from higher up management down to consultants needs to be better. People will be less frustrated if they understand why certain things are happening and why decisions are being made.

    Pros

I spent 8 years at American Express after University. The company were really committed to my development, helping me get my professional qualifications and always providing me with mentors and people to talk to about development.
The culture and people are great and there is a strong sense of recognition.
There is also lots of oppurnity for career development. I worked my way up the company, rotated around different roles and got to work in London and New York.
I always recommend to my friends and think it's a great company to work for.

    Cons

It's a large company and decision making can be slow. Also it needs to fight to innovate in a technolical evolving market. Senior leaders often just rotate around the business after being there a long time so processes often change and then change back.

    Advice to Management

Ken has done a great job. But what's next.....

    Pros

Health benefits encompass a range of services
Flexible working arrangements are possible and the company focuses on accommodating circumstances.

    Expected bureaucracy - it's a vast organisations.

    Advice to Management

Delegating greater empowerment to mid-level management would develop more creative thinking. Be bold.
