I worked at American Flyers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None that I can think of

    Cons

I've witnessed a long time employee have their job threatened when they had a family emergency popup. Same situation, they forced a partime employee to take off from their fulltime job to cover the shift. I've heard racist jokes about foreign students. Extremely high turnover rate partly due to poor management. Severe maintenance issues that were happening too frequently for my comfort level.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on proper training and safety. Try to get out of the complacent mentality before it becomes the norm.

    Pros

Great people to work with. All of the upper management try very hard to provide the best leadership they can. It's the oldest flight school in operation today and they're proud of it and should be. They're in the process of upgrading their fleet to glass. Pay is very good if you will work hard, not complain, be available, play nice, and be fun to work with. I truly loved my time at this company.

    Cons

The schedule gets messed up sometimes, which is frustrating. Communication could be better. They're a little stuck in there ways, but that's changing.

    Advice to Management

Keep taking care of your people. The market is changing quickly. You have a good thing there, keep reminding people of that.

    Pros

Company handles scheduling and takes care of your students. You earn a lot of flight time and pay is pretty good. Airline partnerships are great, it's how I got my job.

    Cons

You get paid to fly, there are no cons.

I worked at American Flyers full-time

    Pros

The company has always had a knack for hiring kids with no experience but a lot of drive, then giving them a lot of responsibility. It's a great place to gain quality experience that someone wouldn't be allowed to get nearly as quickly at other companies. The company's name-brand recognition is also useful on a resume.

    Cons

The pros are accompanied by a crushing workload, low pay, disrespectful management, and a low-morale workplace. Plan at the beginning to get out as soon as possible and keep your eye on the prize.

    Advice to Management

It's painful to think about all the chances they've squandered to move from good to great. They're their own worst enemies.

I worked at American Flyers part-time

    Pros

Professional attitude, good colleagues. All are trying to prove themselves. Most of them are trying to build time to move to the airlines.

    Cons

Management can do a better job assigning students to flight instructors. At times it seems like some instructors are getting only few hrs when others are getting many more hours and better pay.
