    Pros

Great Company, excellent benefits, no pressure on doing things in a timely manner.

    Cons

Not any con's really. It was just the way that they did things that made me the person to let go.

I have been working at American General Life full-time

    Pros

Set own hours- possible to have good work life balance

    Cons

fluctuations in pay and commissions can take a long time to earn. When you earn them they pay quickly- I mean the sales process takes a long time

I have been working at American General Life full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Like work from home option. Love working with our wonderful medical department. Like working with most of the field force and case managers.

    Cons

I have never worked somewhere where I have been so micromanaged. Only care about the numbers. Person in charge of uw department has no uw experience and no respect for underwriters. New systems implemented way before they are ready and customer service means nothing.
Takes an act of God to get a promotion or a raise.
    Systems very unreliable.
Outsourcing of clerical work has made a total mess of every single file they touch!

    Advice to Management

Allow ownership of work instead of constantly moving cases around to make the service numbers look better. It creates lots of errors and ends up slowing down the uw's while they try to figure out what 6 other people who have seen the file have been doing!

I worked at American General Life (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay and benefits were good. Unfortunately there was a lot of drama going on behind closed doors.

    Cons

Serviced too many older companies and were not able to locate files/policies; aggressive language used; small office; management lied about positions; very difficult management

    Advice to Management

    Change your ways or retire

    Cons

The company closed all local offices.

I worked at American General Life (More than 10 years)

    Pros

When I started in final position the pay was good for the effort put forth. Despite the challenges I felt the position was rewarding and that I helped my clients place themselves in a better position than they were in.

    Cons

Company leadership changed over the years and became less service oriented and only profit motivated. Customer service became practically non-existent and became a nightmare to communicate with home office both as a client and as an employee.

    Advice to Management

Too late. After closing nearly all of the offices throughout the country, and ruining a reputation that was once very good, it has shown that the concerns of their clients and employees are no longer theirs. With Jim Mallon at the helm the company was making a name for itself with innovative concepts and products. After his departure was when everything started to unravel and go downhill.
