I worked at American Girl as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at one of the flagship stores was a dream. You get to meet thousands of guests from all over the world which allowed me to make the most magical memories for so many children. Here are some highlights of working at AGPLA:

-They really give you the opportunity to move up in the company if you put in the effort and show your enthusiasm toward the American Girl mission.

    -Part-time employees are offered a 401k!

-Everyone is very involved in the store. You can find HR greeting customers at the front door and security handing out birthday stickers to children on their special day.

    - Generous discounts, discounts on phone plans, etc.

-Very close-knit group of employees, either part-time college students or AG lifers

-Many opportunities to donate time and money to The United Way

-Fun story party once a year, cafe also makes special dishes for employees to enjoy during the holidays

    Cons

-Promised promotions are sometimes forgotten about

-Will only work with a few people's schedules (usually the employees that don't really need special time off)

-You will have to work on the holidays. AG's busiest day is NYD and everyone has to work (but you get time and a half if you work on holidays!).

    Advice to Management

Continue to take care of your employees and follow up with promotions. Work with student's schedules so they can succeed in their career and continue to work for such a great company. I wish I didn't have to leave but I didn't have much of a schedule choice. Luckily now that I am out of college, my experience at American Girl has helped a lot when landing interviews in entry level positions that require a bachelor's degree.
