I worked at American Girl full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, short day Friday, extra holidays, vacation, bonus week after Christmas.

    Cons

Workforce reductions are happening each year.

    Advice to Management

Decrease workload for leadership so they have more time to interact with their direct reports.

I worked at American Girl full-time

    Pros

Meeting happy little girls and being able to provide smiles for both parents and child.

    Cons

Worked in a "pop up" store for the holidays as a store lead. The training was minimal, and never consistent. Upper management & corporate over seeing the store micro manage, and from a distant and offer very little help. Lack of respect for employees and the store managers from any higher ups

    Advice to Management

In order to make your customers happy, make sure your employees and managers are upheld and respected. The lack of respect and communication so called "upper management" had for their pop up locations' manager, leads and even associates was something I've never witnessed in 20 yrs of retail. Management that came in from VA to "help" made it very clear that AG cares very little about their customers, even less about their employees and ONLY about making money.

I worked at American Girl part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of pros include merchandise discount, coworkers, and customers.

    Cons

The organization has a whole is going through some structural reforms. For most employees, no more than 20 hours are given per wk. In other cases, it may be less than that.

    Advice to Management

Focus on ways to retain all employees, especially the great ones. Allow all Bistro employees both front and back of house operations to have free meals

I have been working at American Girl part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Cute store
    -Very nostalgic of my childhood
    -Great pay!

    Cons

    -Managers play favorites
    -Sleazy people hired
-Company policies feel like kindergarten classroom rules
-Data capture requires us to push customers to give out personal information

    Advice to Management

Hire better people who are actually charismatic! There are so many people who are in it only for the paycheck who could care less about kids, and they look and act like they should be working at McDonalds. The managers play favorites and are far too social. The way the company trains employees feels like we're going into kindergarten, and it's really awkward.
