I have been working at American Greetings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fast paced, data focused design leads to quick decsion making and decreases time to market.

    Cons

Accountability for final design work teeters between departments though the testing and experience are owned by ux.

I have been working at American Greetings part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Able to work hours assigned around current commitments. Extra hours can be obtained by helping teammates with a revision of store needed or if they have fallen behind. Seasonal help with another store can also add some hours.

    Cons

In my case I have a TSM that chooses to micro-manage so she can make her numbers. She is not a people person but merely self absorbed on her own success. She doesn't support, mentor or respect us. She rules with intimidation and fear, always the 'let's talk and determine if this is the right job for you'. That is a threat and is creating a hostile environment - in my (and others) opinions she is a bully.

    Advice to Management

District managers should be more aware of their people and how they treat the merchandisers. Perhaps there should be a little more flexibility on achievements for targets.

I worked at American Greetings part-time

    Pros

You can make your own hours

    Cons

There are barely any hours to grab. They don't reimburse you for personal expenses for things necessary to complete your job. Low pay, not enough time.

    Advice to Management

    Reward employees with higher pay.

    Cons

It is a good second job but don't quit your day job!

    Advice to Management

Increased travel pay would be extremely nice!

I have been working at American Greetings full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very enjoyable, friendly work environment. Keeps you on your toes. Good pay and benefits, with many opportunity to move up, gives you something to strive for

    Cons

Could use more training, 3rd shift starting on a Sunday night is a little strange, but you get used to it

I have been working at American Greetings part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, Independence, Self-Directed, Slightly easygoing, Weekends off.

    Cons

    1. More work than it initially seems, there's lots of little details and NOT MUCH TIME GIVEN TO COMPLETE EVERYTHING-depending on if you've got higher volume stores.
    2. Very old technology, scanners from the. 90's. You do have to work some holidays.
    3. Not a full-time benefitted position
    4. Not good with giving out raises, but they send you a birthday card each year and a work bag at Christmas time.
    5. Not enough training-no ones got any spare time it seems.

    Advice to Management

Give raises, keep people who do a pretty good job happy. The job itself is ok, but it's just a job and not a career SO that's why people leave. You'd never be paid enough to live.
