I have been working at American Greetings full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

very nice people and coworkers, excellent opportunity to develop your skills, fun workshops, Starbucks in the building, free art supply store, overtime work is rare.

    Cons

hirer-ups and people making art decisions are clueless, rather then let go of toxic employees company just moves them around, many employees have been there for 30+ years which can be a bad thing if they haven't kept up with industry skills and knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Place more emphasis on building a stronger product and less on producing large numbers of production, spend more money on advertising and name recognition to build brand

I worked at American Greetings part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You have a lot of flexibility when setting your schedule, you get paid for travel time between accounts, you are very rarely supervised after completing training, you get to work alone most of the time.

    Cons

Your starting pay will depend on how much past experience you have in retail, but that still doesn't help much. The pay is barely above minimum wage. There are no benefits whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they deserve.

I worked at American Greetings full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The atmosphere of the work environment was great. It is a very tight knit group of printers there. I loved that about AG. When I was there your supervisors and upper guys were passed 1st pressmen that's been there for 25 or 30 years.

    Cons

I really have nothing bad to say about AG, great people there. I didn't always agree with some upper manage guys but you never will, not always.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers at then end of the day printing is a skilled trade and the guys that's been the 20, 25, or 30 years know what they are talking about!

I have been working at American Greetings part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work at own pace, no set schedule, easy website to navigate and just follow the list. Get things done as they come up.

    Cons

Customers are very impatient; it's easier to work around them and not set stock at busy times. Have to learn the store.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice! I love my upper management. They really care.

I worked at American Greetings part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Give certain hours per week and mandatory number of times per week to service store. Nice to work alone. No witnesses to your total confusion.

    Cons

Very little training. Very Basic info from silly cartoons: how to check into store, positively rep company, info very shallow and not any "how to accomplish tasks in your authorized assigned hours. Open, unwrap, sort, restock, take inventory in your given hours. Nothing about removing, replacing signage, cards as seasons and holidays change. (Hint, cards are pulled out of pockets and thrown out in stores dumpsters) so wasteful.
Not given enough time to get up to speed before supervisors start to suggest hour overage results in termination. Obviously expect merchandisers to not record all time worked if they want to keep below minimum wage job.

    Advice to Management

Merchandisers learn quickly product has little worth. Customers pay $4.50+ for a card that costs pennies to make. Profits shared with store and company. Merchandiser expense kept as low as possible.

I worked at American Greetings full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

New building and location is ok. Get to wear jeans to work.

    Cons

Corporate culture does not find it's way into the infrastructure team. Micromanagement, outdated procedures, too small team for such a large environment, co-workers / team members have been at AG for a LOOOONG time with no outside experience which leads to narrow-sighted focus.
