I have been working at American Greetings (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Amazing colleagues
Creative division leadership has integrity and vision
    Excellent salaries and benefits
Best gig in the world for a creative artist (design or writing)
Opportunities for in-house promotions and lateral moves
New Creative Studios opens in September 2016

    Cons

The typical drawbacks of a large corporation -- some hierarchical issues, lots of approval layers, change doesn't happen fast

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what we're doing

    Pros

If you are willing to relocate, are self motivated and dedicated to your success, the sky is the limit! The company was recently taken private and the owners are reinvesting into the business which shows their confidence in remaining relevant and growing the social expression category.

    Cons

Company is focused on succession planning and some associates get moved out of a role before they were successful in said role. The con can be seeing as a pro if you are looking for advancement opportunities however it leads to frustration when working with associates who need more experience and get advanced.

    Advice to Management

I think the management does a great job focusing on career development and providing effective feedback. Corporate culture at American Greetings has a very positive atmosphere and they do a good job living out the Mission, Vision and Values.

I worked at American Greetings full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, comfortable working conditions. Great pay and decent benefits.

    Cons

Union is a joke. Union Rep's are worthless. The only union company I have worked for that your union Rep's don't actually work.

    Advice to Management

Work at cultivating a next generation. Ensure you are conditioning people that have worked there to run the place when your gone. The ground work is done when you promote within. You just have to do a little fine tuning. Ensure you are ethical in your dealings.

I have been working at American Greetings part-time

    Pros

Somewhat flexible, not very stressful compared to other retail jobs. If you enjoy organizing and cleaning you will probably like it. It's rewarding to work on the card department and make it look nice. Good for a retired or stay at home wife or mom that wants to get out of the house as there is not a whole lot of hours given to you

    Cons

Not very many hours, doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of room to advance
