      Pros

Collaborative team-oriented company with great district managers that truly care about their teams

      Cons

High turnover with the part-time merchandisers can be challenging to manage. There was never a time where I had a fully staffed territory. Long hours at first and expect to work holidays, because your employees are

      Pros

Part time, can pretty much “make” your own hours within constraints

      Cons

Not much interaction with other merchandisers as there use to be.

      Great part-time job

      Pros

I can set my own hours week to week within store and manager's guidelines. My manager is terrific, responsive and really seems to care about his large team. You are typically assigned a store or stores you are trained and then you work on your own.

      Cons

Busy holidays can be physically taxing. Large shipments and lots of tasks to perform. I can get help from other merchandisers during holidays.

The company has sadly changed a lot

      Pros

Flexibility Good for people who just want a small part time job. Like students who want to make a little extra money.

      Cons

No full time offered Barely enough hours for even a part time job. Use to offer bigger routes but now they made them so small the hours are barely worth the time. Also new employees coming in are making about the same money as merchandisers who have been with the company longer. Company has sadly changed a lot.

      Pros

      Decent salary/bonus. Pretty good benefits.

      Cons

A lot of hiring/training new merchandisers. Company sold to an investment group and all they care about is the bottom line.

      Heavy lifting low pay

      Pros

Flexible hours. Very physical work so I am actually working out.

      Cons

I am retired and have a pension so fortunately I don't have to rely on this job to support myself. Be ready for lots of heavy lifting big cartons of cards especially during holiday season. Too much product is shipped to smaller stores and the cards end up being tossed. What a waste of resources and effort on the part of merchandisers. The job pays minimum wage but expectations are unrealistic. Limited hours to accomplish large amount of tasks. Some managers only care about metrics to make themselves look good. Part time merchandisers making minimum wage are the faces stores see so they have a heavy responsibility. I can go on and on. Don't do it unless you just need side income.

Training and supervision is poor. No overall business picture provided.

      Pros

Flexibility is great. Ability to make your own hours is convenient.

      Cons

Local management is not nice and not helpful. Shops do not want to talk to local management because of dishonesty of answers and bad attitude. No effort to make merchandiser a better employee with conversations about the job or policies. Retail has great relationships with part time merchandisers but next level management is avoided at all accounts. No annual review. No opportunity for more hours or more money.

      Pros

Flexible Schedule, that’s pretty much it.

      Cons

Will dump stores that were either neglected or poorly handled by previous merchandisers, Inadequate Hours, Never truly had the privilege to have or even use benefits, Will have to deal with supervisors and assistant managers who will catch an attitude over lack of or blatant miscommunications that has NOTHING to do with you.

Pay attention to your Merchandisers. They run the company...

      Pros

Company car and free gas for travel anywhere/anytime. And it is truly free. Benefits are ok but you get vacation time from the start - 2 weeks. Running your own territory from your home office. YOur boss isnt (always) looking right over your shoulder. For the most part you run your own territory and manage your employees. Set your own hours, just get the work done. Which means you will be working alot.

      Cons

You can set your own hours, but there is always too much to do. Information from World Headquarters is sometimes slow trickling down to the field. My merchandisers will tell me about a new program shipped to them before I know about it. AS do not have real selling responsibilites and have to defer to the Account Exec at headquarters to make needed changes in account at times. That takes time and frustration. Depends on your DM how involved they are in your day to day functions. The previous DM did not realize that the AS I replaced had basically stopped working for the prevous year. My current Dm though micromanages and has driven a few veteran (20+ yr) AS's to early retirement. It all depends. AG will send you to the field to work anwhere in the country with no regard to personal preference or hardships of being comletely alone in a new place/city/state. Some people have a hard time with that.
